Have you ever heard someone say “ well I can’t afford to pick up some steaks for the grill tonight cause gas at the pumps is too high”?
I guess a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck...
Yeah, go frick yourself, you judgemential prick. I’m willing to bet mommy and daddy paid for gas in high school and college.

Let’s say this same family booked a beach trip to 30-A last October.
Now let’s say some crazy shite went down in Iran and caused gas prices to soar to $5 a gallon in a weeks time.
Would that family cancel their trip because the price of gas would cost them an extra $200 to get there?
No because no matter what their vehicle doesn’t run without fuel. So they will pay it and go on their trip.
They won't cancel their trip, but they will eat out one less time a week or grill chicken instead of steaks or not go to the movies to make up for the increased gas prices. So they would alter their behavior.
If you can't understand this you have no hope understanding basic economics.

How so? Have you ever personally not done something because of what the price of gas was?
I guarantee that most posters here have been in this situation at one time or another. There’s been times where I can’t afford to go to concerts with gas being a major expense. No one is going to say openly “I’d love to come man, but man gas prices are just grinding on me.” Everyone pays for gas so it’s just an advertisement that you don’t have much money.
You’re an idiot. Congrats on never paying for gas at least until your mid 20s. Go frick yourself.

Y’all are completely missing the point.
No matter what the price of gas is people will pay it.
All the associated costs of companies with higher transports costs being passed down; people will pay it.
No one is peddling their bike to their doctors appointment because gas is too high

but that won’t stop them from going to the movies or making sure they have an iPhone
Ummm first off a smart phone is now a necessity in this current environment, and secondly go to the M/TV board sometime and see what people are saying about theaters. I’ve heard from multiple posters that they can only afford to go to the theaters once a month due to it being $100 every time they go with their family.

I have been there done that as a broke college student buying flats of Ramen. That’s one thing. It’s another when your 15 years post college
The entire world will not stop turning because gas prices are high... people will continue about their lives and pay it whatever it costs.

So you are using anecdotal evidence to support your claim.
Yikes.

Of course, but they'll alter their behavior to purposely use less, which you contented they did not, which is an idiotic take.

Not me, my company pays for my gas.

I used to when I lived 25 miles from work, made half what I do now and drove a truck that got about 15 mpg. We live 5.5 miles from my office, 2 miles from the wife's and 1.5 from my daughter's school.
I don't really care what it costs now. Obviously the cost of fuel causes other prices to rise due to transportation costs etc.

Here’s a tip: when everyone is accusing you of being a self righteous retard, try to use “you’re” correctly.

I’d consider biking to work if gas went to $5/gallon.

Full disclosure: I work for an O&G company
Come on $100/bbl!!!!

I don't care at all for a couple reasons:
I don't commute nearly as much as I did several years ago. I work from home most of the time.
An oil and gas industry flush with cash will spend it. When the price of gas goes up, they spend money on technology, which in turn helps my numbers and bank account.
