I see where you are getting at...but yes it does affect behavior. More carpooling, less unnecessary trips, drive vs fly decisions, etc

To some extent but not as much as people claim.
Iphones will still be bought
People will still go on vacations
People will still go to concerts, movies, out to eat.
Vehicles will still be bought, and homes will be built
People will still order Hello Fresh and use Waitr and Uber
People who have money will still have money, and people who don’t have money still won’t. The earth will still spin.
In my fortunate situation I don’t have to worry about the price of gas. Other people might, which is why I asked the question (WHO cares about the price of gas?) as in who on the board cares. But snowflakes ruin everything amirite?

I burn 40-45 gallons a week and have no choice. When I was filling up for $60 and now it's up around $80 and yes it takes a bite out of what I would spend for other items or what goes into my savings account.
When my gas bill goes up my other purchases go down. It's that simple and there is no way oil should be over $50 a barrel right now other than OPEC pushing the price up.

After Katrina, I was paying in the $5/gal neighborhood. $5 x 34 gallon tank =170. Did that at least 2 times a week because I was commuting to Atlanta for work, 340 a week adds up real fast.

Yep.
First week of April, diesel was 2.73. Yesterday, it was 3.11.
Every trip, I put about 125 gallons in the tank. I pay $47.50 more now than I did before. I average four trips a week...$190 a week I lose. That comes out to a loss of about $823/month. Yikes.

Which will be passed on to the consumer

How so? Have you ever personally not done something because of what the price of gas was?
Yes. You moron.
Sorry I can't just use daddy's shell card like you.
I have to budget for gas to make sure I have enough to get to work

Full disclosure: I work for an O&G company
Come on $100/bbl!!!!
So would you care if gas was $1 a gallon?
Obviously price doesn't matter. So why does it have to be high?

I care. It's pretty rational to want to spend money on things other than fuel
I'm taking it the OP is an oilfield Baw?

My car gets 35 mpg, so I don’t really care

Maybe eventually. For the last month, I've eaten that bill. I get a flat rate for each trip since it's a dedicated route. Hasn't changed yet. Doubt it will through the summer.

I've never paid attention to gas prices

Because smart phones are necessary in today’s society.

No they won’t. You’re a selfish brat who was spoiled and think that everyone lives an upper middle class lifestyle. Tons of people’s vacations are a smoke break at a bar. You need to be knocked on your delusional arse.

People will still go to concerts, movies, out to eat.
No they don’t. Go to the M/TV board. They’ll carefully explain to you why they only go to 2 movies a year and then do Redbox for everything. You’re a spoiled shite.

And you’ll still be spouting shite, you spoiled douchebag. I’m willing to bet that Daddy gave you your current job and you didn’t work in high school or college. You’re a fricking punk.

I think you never paid for gas or worked in general in high school and college, and you work for your father or father in law and don’t have to worry about shite. This is how I imagine you:

He is.
But let's flip it: make gas $1 a gallon.
Will he still be doing the movies, iPhones, and vacations? What about his Oil and Gas baws?
