I'll be honest. When I saw the trailer for this over the weekend, I did have a moment of "WTF? Why is there a white guy defending the Great Wall?" and "What super hero level origin story are they going to shoe-horn in to the beginning of this movie to justify his presence there?".

this is at least a better example than the "tom cruise is the last samurai?" argument

It basically is.. SJWs ignore that Tom cruise wasn't even the last samurai. He was basically an observer and not a white savior.

Same thing in this great Wall movie

To be fair, he was raised by the Bankses, so due to their wealth and social status most of America is confused about Will Smith's race.

I am sorry that the white man has created everything that exists and everything that people enjoy.

I am so sorry, that this is how we are thanked.

Thank you for taking us out of the stone age and in to the age of civilation white man --- thank you very much.

As your reward, every other race that you have helped will turn on you and spend all of their time trying to demean and remove you.......

from the very thing you created.

Hollywood cares about green, not black or white.

This. These actors are cast for their star appeal, not their skin color (or even their acting ability in some cases).

Constance is great on Fresh Off The Boat, but this is some faux outrage on her part.

Not anywhere. It's been explained to me, in real life, that black folks are incapable of it. Which seems kind of offensive towards black people. But Whatevah, I gave up on understanding this world awhile back.

Did we forget about all of the action movies where Jackie Chan and Jet Li played the "hero" role?

Yeah, and those are all Kung Fu movies. Its the only thing Asians can get the leading roles in most of which are made by Asians. Seriously, name on film made by Americans that doesn't star Jackie, Jet, or Bruce Lee that doesn't have anything to do with Kung Fu? The only one that pops into my mind is "Harold and Kumar" and it directly parodies this bullshite.

Sorry, but whitewashing with Asian characters is definitely a thing in Hollywood. An Asian person can not get a leading role in a movie. When blacks bitch about it these days, they're mostly full of shite, but there are very large examples every year of Asians being whitewashed for American audiences.

However, there are plenty of mainstream movies where a person of color is the "hero"

As I said, I can only think of two movies that don't involve those 3 actors listed above. Please go ahead and list one movie.

That's true. Black people can't be racist because racism is the economic, judicial, and sociopolitical system in America that keeps black people subject to the white man. Now, keep in mind that this means that if a white man in America hates a black man from Uganda, it's not racism because the black man from Uganda isn't the oppressed object of the system here in America. But, for argument's sake, we can still assume the white man is racist towards anyone who is non-white, because white men can't help it.

But where is the problem? You're trying to make a profit with your movie. It is incredibly risky to cast someone who represents less than 5% of the potential domestic moviegoers.

This was more or less what this woman explained to me. I then googled the definition the word "racist" and read it to her. She told me I was wrong, I was speechless. So now I just don't care, and I gotta say I'm a lot happier.

For real?

I doubt the movie will ever stand up to my imagination, but he was white in the artwork. Then of course Nick Fury was the American version of James Bond in the comics. In the movies he's just a bureaucrat with a gun.

Ugh. That's reason enough not to watch it. Will Smith sucks and ruins movies with his suckness.

That was such a great line. "I'm gonna make a movie called The Last N**** on Earth starring Tom Hanks." Paul Mooney was a very underrated part of Chapelle Show.

Are asian ppl even upset by this? I actually saw the trailer and thought it was pretty cool that Matt Damon was going to be in a movie about chinese lore. I mean you can stick a chinese guy in that role but it wouldn't have nearly the draw of Matt Damon. It's just business.

and Yes, I'm asian, but I don't care. It's certainly not racist, that word gets tossed around too much these days.

I don't have any issue with big budget movies with actors of any race. I have an issue with movies that are supposedly about some minority where the lead is some out of place white man or woman there to save them from themselves.

Are you saying that "Hollywood" thinks that white people won't buy movie tickets if the lead isn't white, but other races will buy tickets when the lead actor is a different race than they are? That may be true. Either way the best way to show that we don't want to see white savior movies is to not go see them.
