White people now racist for having white favorite players?

I was having a recent discussion with some guys, couple of them where black. We were discussing NBA players. The normal names were brought up, MJ, LeBron, etc.
I say my favorite player was John Stockton, and the black guys all act like I just dropped the N-word.
So apparently, I'm racist for having a white player as a favorite player.

Well that is the whitest player you could possibly choose. Acceptable white favorite players include (but are not necessarily limited to): Larry Bird, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, and Jason Williams
