LABADIEVILLE – A man accused of stealing water after he removed a water meter from his Assumption Parish home was arrested.

Steven Simoneaux, 66, was arrested Friday for felony theft after he allegedly removed the water meter from his home on LA 1011 and used a homemade pipe to bypass the meter, Assumption Parish deputies said.

Deputies said the tampering resulted in undocumented water usage.

Thats funny.

I have a friend with some rental houses. One of the tenants got behind on his water bill and they turned it off and put a lock on it. He cut lock off and poured concrete into the meter box to keep them from turning it off again.

The city brought out a backhoe and dug up the street and capped the line on the main line and refused to restore water to him under any circumstance.

We had free water growing up through one unmetered hookup. Prior owner was a county commissioner, we used it to fill up the pool in spring.

There should be no rule that the landlord has to pay a tenant's water bill to restore service. If the City is worried about a tenant stiffing them, require a deposit.

Felony theft? How much water did he steal? My water bill is $30 a month. It would take a few years to reach felony level.

The Town of Broussard did this to Lafayette when it opened a bypass valve on a Lafayette owned 16 inch main and used the stolen water to open a new service area in southwest Broussard. Another Charlie Langlinais production. No one was ever charged.

But if the water usage is undocumented that doesn’t mean it’s illegal

Unless the water company is racist

Funny, someone stole water meters on our street when we lived in BR and straight piped them. No idea what they would need the meters for.

Wait a minute.

A felony theft is something like over $800 or some amount way up like that so how the hell do you get $800+ of water in a month?
