Everyone should read "One Hour After". Really eye opening and makes you realize common misconceptions. Sure there are a lot of squirrel, rabbit, and deer now. Imagine how fast it goes when everyone is hunting them. Once the medication runs out/expires you soon realize how deadly a simple cut to the hand can be. How's your mentality and will to survive going to be when your child or spouse dies because you couldn't provide enough/do enough to keep them alive? How are you going to protect what's important to you (food and family) when everyone is trying to survive and willing to do anything to make sure it happens? I have no illusions about me and my family's fate. Unless by the grace of God we will be short lasted. People need to understand the level of difficulty a complete societal breakdown would cause. We've become way to spoiled. A lot of people are going to learn that the hard way.

Yeah, we have a group of internet badasses who believe they are movie stars.

frick those pricks and hopefully they’ll consume themselves before they destroy the rest of the normal world.

Just a passport and a couple suitcases .

The USA is circling the drain… im not talking about the ‘whys’, your whys may be different from my whys.. but i think most of us can agree that the US is a crumbling empire, no matter what happens in November .. might as well be ahead of the curve .

May not have to if its remote enough. Im sure most will not be able to walk to find his area. Its a weird rabbit hole being wrapped up in that kinda thinking but I did enjoy that Doomsday Pepper show. I really wonder how many people spend money they dont really have preparing for something that may never happen.

Anyone ever actually tried those prepper food buckets they sell at Costco? Any good?

It’s just boil to eat camping food. Taste great on a backpacking trip, not enjoyable at all at the kitchen table.

Not much different than the grocery aisle that has Knorrs side dishes, spam, etc.

If there's communism in place, your stuff is now the governments and it won't matter how many beans you've stashed away.

total anarchy

Total anarchy is about a week away with no power or government intervention, or for most of America, once the running water shuts off.

99% of these prepper types are basically just prepping for a power outage, hurricane, ice storm, etc. Especially the ones who fall for the TV commercials.

They think they’re planning long term, but they’re not. I don’t think you can prep long term in any meaningful way. It would just be “try to survive” anarchy after a month.

If it comes to that, 99% of this country will be fricked. I’ve got plenty of guns and ammo and some land but it’s 200 miles from my home. I could last a little while, but it would be miserable.

Same. Most honest answer in this thread by far.

Exactly.

The most likely scenario would be something like post-Katrina where you and your neighbors would be on your own for a few weeks.

After what I saw then; police looting and disappearing, random crime by thugs, really a basic lawlessness, preparation will be key.

Any long-term situation would be total anarchy.

I equate it to those little house on he prairie books I read as a kid.

Few adults now a days would know how to do all that stuff. Especially without modern tools.

Also, the country is way more populated so there will be roaming group of people looking to steal more often.

Also in addition to the regular pepper stuff, I recommend buying horses, mules, and an old diesel car. Diesel lasts longer and it’s easier to prepare alternative fuels to use in the diesel and get it to work.

Good luck overall. I feel like to really go prepped would require me to buy land, move out to the country, and spend 5+ years prepping. Plus you probably would want a big family tree just to have enough people to work the land and run night guard.

Overall it doesn’t sound like a fun way to live compared to our current comfy lives. But I think that’s part of the problem. We are too comfortable so we have time to argue about how many genders there are.

My family owns an "island" in FL which is in the middle of a river that has a rather swift current. This island is fairly large in size and has only one easily accessible point, with the rest being fairly high bluffs. Old school traps (think of the movie southern comfort and others like punji pits, etc. And plenty of freedom seeds. Totally safe? Nothing ever is, but sink enough boats in the river as they try to raid and they will think twice.
