Boerne, Lakeway, Fredericksburg, New Braunfels
Big city wise: Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, Houston, Dallas (in order) even though none would be bad to live in.

Amarillo > Lubbock imo unless you're a college student
Both of them are pretty horrific. You want wind blowing at least 10 mph all the time? How about straight wind of 35 mph with gusts to 60 in March and April? You want brown to be the color of your yard and pretty much everything around? How about hot and dry as hell in the summer and cold as can be in the winter? Amarillo and Lubbock are your places! I lived in Amarillo for 3 years and can't think of much good to say about it. People were nice and hard working, but not super friendly and certainly no southern hospitality.
The best thing about these cities is that they are near the mountains in New Mexico.

And yes, I live in one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country but can’t afford your Texas suburb.

Frankly your area seems poor as shite compared to mine.
Man I don’t know how I survive without getting to spend my Friday nights watching high school football games.

What’s wrong with a nice breeze? Would you prefer 0 mph wind and 80% humidity?

I’m an Austin native. But give me either Memorial in Houston, Highland Park in Dallas, or Alamo Heights in San Antonio. Otherwise I’ll pass on anything in TX.

It's a very strong breeze that blows sand in your eyes. So yes, I'll take no wind and 80% humidity every day of the week.
Besides, humidity keeps your skin looking young for much longer. Have you every noticed the wrinkles on those folks living where it's super dry?
And lastly, have you lived in Amarillo or Lubbock or someplace on the plains? Worst place I've every lived.

I'd take a climate where 84 degrees was a heat wave

Hico and Hamilton have both stepped up the last couple years and are both turning into quaint small towns.

The worst part about all of that is the brown appearance.

Very solid choice! Love that town. If I were working in or around Austin, that’s my go to. The hills and the lake are beautiful. It’s got all the restaurants, stores and medical needs. Would rarely go into the city aside from work.
Id go into the city for terry blacks.

While I agree that being close to the NM mountains is good I think this thread is more focused on the town itself being good. Not proximity being convenient

It’s so damn good! Top 5 in the state IMO. And that’s a big deal in Texas.
