Isn't there a third world Caribbean country named Grenada as well?

It's been a while since I spent a few months there, but I don't remember remember Meridian being that bad. Of course I went there straight from basic training so that may have had something to do with it.

Hattiesburg isn't bad
Meridian is a depressing and sad town.
Jackson is a lost cause.
The Delta is a time warp
I will stay on the Coast

Peavey is probably the most famous now, Raytheon is about to start building jets there though from what I understand.
That being said Meridian is a depressing shithole for sure

Meridian Naval Air Station is a big employer in Meridian....they are the jets that often do the flyovers at tiger stadium.

Meridian stands to get a huge boost by Raytheon/Aermacchi, if they get the jet trainer contract for the Air Force, and I think they will get it. This would include a newly built aircraft factory and hundreds of high paying engineering jobs.
Meridian is a military town with Naval air base, and an Army National Guard squadron. It also has Peavey Electronics headquartered there, and an MSU satellite campus that includes the Riley Center.
It's got crime problems, but it's not hopeless like Jackson.
