It is a nice town. It has its problems like any town but not on scale with others I've been to. Clean place good schools in the area and if it's good enough for Favre it's alright in my book.

Why? Just curious. Odd answer. By the way, Grenada Lake is one of the best crappie lakes in the country.

Last time I drove through Jackson, last week, someone shot at my truck (driving on I-55), blew out the window and peppered my door with dings and scratches.

Natchez will get better with improving oil prices. It's biggest problem is its shitty and corrupt public school system.

5 pages and no Escatawpa? Home of the Cheap-O Depot, Piggly Wiggly and 3 Doors Down?

Most of this thread is just a bunch of crap from LA people. There are lots of nice places in MS.

That said, the city of Jackson itself is a total shithole. Somebody was dissing downtown Jackson -- downtown is paradise compared to west Jackson. West Jackson makes you wonder if you're still in America -- and makes you long for someplace nice, like North Baton Rouge.

There are nice places outside Jackson -- Madison is nicer than anyplace around BR. But Jackson itself is a disaster area.

Jackson - hands down. When passing through, I make sure not to stop and to gas up/pee in Madison.

At least it's got a couple of decent catholic and episcopal alternatives that aren't just shitty outright segregation academies.

I'm not sure if one's position is better than the other, but I'll say Baton Rouge's saving grace is probably the fact that it doesn't have a legitimately nice suburban community like that.

Those are great if you've got money, but I believe the lack of decent public education is a major deterrent to young people or companies (and jobs) from moving to Natchez.

My daughter and family live there. Been 5 yrs, but what a really great place they were in. Do they still have that woman mayor? She carried a big stick from what I understood...right down to the color of the sign Walmart was allowed to use.

I live and work in Hattiesburg and I really love it here.

It gets my vote for least depressing by far.

I grew up on the coast and it was pretty damn miserable for a while after Katrina, although I suppose that is nobody's fault.

Any part of Mississippi north of Hattiesburg (that isn't on a river) is where things start to get sad.

Columbus/Meridian/Starkville is like a gauntlet of misery.
