I’m currently moving to, Montana. Got a great job and will be able to hike in beautiful country when it warms up. BUT the winters are going to suck.

Houses are built to handle winters there. I’d live there in a heartbeat. The winters are a bit rough but manageable.

Very happy where I am in Virginia, out in the country 30 mins from the downtown of a mid-sized city and 12 mins from shopping, a couple of great bars and various restaurants.
- 4 season's climate, although winters recently have been milder w less snow (pros / cons); plenty of rain, no extremes like hurricanes, droughts
- does get hot / humid but usually for only a couple months or so
- 90 mins from DC, endlesss things to do there
- an hour from the bay
- 3 hours to the outer banks
- 5-6 hours away from Myrtle Beach, Charleston
- Dulles Airport 90 mins away
- abundance of clear, rocky rivers for whitewater paddling, flyfishing
- mountainbiking park 10 mins away
- My boat in it's slip at the lake 40 mins away
- Mountains (hiking, biking, skiiing, the AT, Skyline and BRP) a little over an hour away
- Disbursed (free) mountain camping a little over an hour away
- Fantastic state parks
- Abundance of wineries, breweries, distilleries, cideries within an hour
- Weed is legal, I have a nice grow room with Amnesia Haze, Blue Dream, and Gorilla Glue flowering up right now.
- Ability to get to numerous Fortune 500 cos within 30 mins, more within an hour (I've worked for 5 diff ones in the past 40 years)
- Commute not bad, but no way would I work very near DC; I'm near 95 which is great most of the time, but whole family all knows the backroads to avoid backups
- COL isn't bad, taxes I guess a little high
- Public schools are excellent, no need for private, colleges are numerous, affordable and excellent
- Health care excellent
- Live in a high inccome/low poverty rural county that doesn't subdivide less that 10 acres in 90 % of the county. Real estate is a little high and in demand, but there's not much of it ever for sale.
- Miles and miles of curvy, hilly rural roads around me for cycling or getting out my ZRX or the old hot rod on.
- My home county is a 2A Santuary County, conservative farming, rural, glacial growth by design.
- Bottom line, I shoot, hunt, fish on my property and ride the 2 miles of trails on my ATV or Jeep any damn time I want to.
I think I did alright. If my acreage were a little hillier, that's all I'd change.
It's Friday night, been outside all afternoon, Got a fire in the barrel outside the shop, foosball on the tube, and honky tonk in the air (it's 43 degrees and clear out).

I live in NW Arkansas and it checks most of those boxes except there are very few places you can travel to on direct flights and multi-leg flights are long and expensive.

We have some condos in Hot Springs and love that town. It’s only about 2 1/2 hours from my permanent residence, but when I retire, I would t mind spending a few months a year up there. There is just so much to do. I’m

I’m in Big Sky, Montana right now….BEAUTIFUL place to visit for a week or two, but no way in hell I could make it for a full winter.

If I were ever going to move, which isn’t likely, I would move to Franklin, TN. Have visited friends there who love it.

I want to get out of the concrete parking lot of Houston. I want big woods, clear running streams and rivers, and elevation change. Just big enough to have a good grocery store and Amazon 2nd day delivery.
Are we brothers??

Knoxville checks every box on there... which is why I moved here.
That said, cost of living has doubled in the last 5.5 years. Still better than places like Nashville or Austin but no longer really affordable.
Traffic has gotten worse too, but it's still nothing compared to Baton Rouge or big cities like Atlanta and Houston.
