Lockett, and then back to Kirby Smith.

Turned on the tv at my parents in my bedroom. Always watched the today show. Remember vividly the second plane hitting and maybe Bryant gumbel saying “are we thinking this is deliberate” or something like that. I just remember going to work that day and realizing how small and insignificant I am.

I was dating a girl whose father was a DC lobbyist and
personal friends with some well known figures in the Bush administration. I got to hear every wild rumor in the following weeks. The big fear was that AQ had gotten hold of a Russian suitcase nuke.

At school.
I found out about the attacks while playing dodgeball during P.E.
I initially didn't believe what I had heard, asked the coaches in the locker room about what was going on, and was shocked to find out that it was all true. Obviously it was the only thing we could talk about for the rest of the day.

One thing I'll always remember about that day. My grandfather was a veteran of WW2 and lived in the same neighborhood as me and my wife. I walk up to his place after work and he's on the porch smoking a cigarette. First thing he says to me is "well I guess the Braves ain't gonna be on TV tonight huh?" Ole boy had lived Pearl Harbor and 9/11 and just wanted to watch the Braves on TBS .

sitting in a doctor's office lobby (Lafayette) waiting to conduct a voc rehab conference. TV's were on as the patients and office personnel were numb and in disbelief. It all seemed so surreal.

9th grade math class. NWLA right next to Barksdale. My dad was still active duty at the time. Watched AF1 fly in, he swung through and checked me out, the base was getting locked down and I guess he had the go ahead to roll out.

I was working for a company doing some renovations to the Superdome in preparation for the upcoming Super Bowl. We didn't know anything about what happened, but about 10 AM a Superdome security guy came up to the suite level where we were and told us everybody had to leave. He explained what happened in NYC and said that there was a fear that if there were any other hijacked planes, the Superdome could be a target.
On the way walking to my truck in the contractor parking lot under the Claiborne overpass, a pair of fighter jets flew by flying pretty low over the CBD. That's when I realized that the SHTF.

Man, just a tragic story all the way around. Sorry man.

Driving to class at LSU. Hadn’t turned on the news. Walton and Johnson were saying “the Muslims took down the WTC” , I didn’t know if it was a skit or something, switched over to 870AM and was like “wow, the WTC is gone”

Jogging to Park Hall on UGA campus for an exam I was late for. I get to the room and the professor is standing outside with the door closed and I thought "frick he's locked me out" which is something he often threatened to do with anyone late. Out of breath I mentally prepare to beg to be let in and tells me all classes are cancelled due to terrorist attacks on Washington DC and the WTC. I was a little shocked and confused and didn't initially believe him, he was also somewhat of a jokester, so I walk out of Park Hall on the Baldwin side, scratching my head, and my former roomate just happened to be driving by, stopped and picked me up. His GF at the time's father was a delta pilot and there was still fear out there of other planes getting hijacked so they were worried about him. Nobody had cell phones. He drops me off at home. My crackhead neighbor who didn't have cable begged to watch the news with me. So we day drank all day watching Fox News in my apartment. And he smoked some crack.

quote:I went to NYC a few months later and visited a bunch of fire stations and police stations. Delivering supplies, care packages, etc. Every single place had lost at least one person. Some had lost everyone.
Sadly, my local fire station was literally wiped out since they were some of the first to arrive at the WTC.
While it was extremely sad, I met some of the strongest men and women I've ever met in my life. I wish every person in America could sit with those men and women and be affected by them the way I was.
