I was thinking that would put him south of 285. He could hop on 75 and deal with that cluster.
Live as near IP as possible but NOT Little 5 Points.

Check out ATL Scoop on Instagram. Then search from there

I have a cousin that lives in Powder Springs. She enjoys it, but it looks like that would be quite a commute for you.

I have several friends who live in the Virginia-Highland area along with the Atkins Park. It was really nice neighborhoods with a ton of service industry people there. Bars and restaurants were in walking which was a plus.

visited my friend in the "nice" area of VA Highlands recently and she said car break ins were a nightly occurrence. Fun stuff

I live on the far east side of town. It is alright. But everything is super expensive right now. I guess it is like that everywhere. I'm going to have to go way north, like Dawsonville or Gainesville, to find something I want that is affordable.
To the OP, little 5 points has some nice spots. You can find something safe and be right next to your work. Then find an area you like, as you explore. I wouldn't buy ITP right now..

Inman is nice. Have a bunch of friends there right now and they all love it.
Stay the frick away from Buckhead.
I'm currently in Brookhaven and absolutely love it, but that is way too far of a commute if you're working in Inman Park. Considering all the good neighborhoods around Inman.

Brookhaven/Chamblee area…in the perimeter and just far enough and close enough to everything. It’s a big city so there will be traffic, but that commute isn’t bad and shouldn’t be a dealbreaker or deterrent. You’ll be right next to Buford Highway for endless ethnic food options to explore, chamblee Main Street area has good food, music and brews and same for Dresden Dr. Lots of young people in your age range live in this area.

When has there not been construction on 285?

Yeah but these are pretty major projects. Not just repaving.

$2k is about standard for rent around there, but I used to have a 2 story 1,500 sq/ft loft with 27’ ceilings and floor to ceilings windows in the heart of midtown for that. I should have bought that place while I could.
Inman is good. Especially if you’re single and like basic chicks.

If you’re going to live in core parts of any major city car break ins are a thing. Any semi-dense part of Atlanta will have lots, just going to have to accept it.

Some suburb outside of the combat zone.

Soy boy,
Buckhead is a ghetto. Southside of Atlanta used to be ok but it's now ghetto-suburb unless you can't below Locust Grove. But if you did, you may as well move to north side of Macon. It's nicer and much cheaper.
If you must be in Atlanta near downtown, then Inman Park is great. Decatur is ok. Avoid Gwinnett. Anything near 285 outside is ghetto. Maybe you can get up to Cumming.
Good luck.
