Um......yes, they are. I work with numerous people that have tattoos. A few with full sleeves, some with just 1 or 2, and 1 person with a neck tattoo though she is a janitor. I know few of the doctors here that have tattoos as well. Not sleeves, but a tattoo or 2.
There's no shortage of visible tattoos in the hospital.

sleeves are a good bit less trashy than neck tattoos...
that being said, I judge people based on the quality of the artwork on their bodies, ranging from "wow, that looks awesome and was done by someone talented" to "it looks like it was done in prison with a dull razorblade and crushed charcoal"

Did a genealogy report and in this it gave me "notable people you're related to" and on my mothers side I am related to Al Capone. I've mentioned it on here in the past. I know what you're getting at and all, just ironic you bring it up.

Wanted a tat my senior year of high school (July birthday so I'm older in my grade) and my mom talked me out, thank God. I couldn't imagine having one now.
However, a regional manager at my place of work came up to the office randomly last weekend and he was wearing a short-sleeve polo and I realized he was tatted the frick up, like sleeves on both arms. He always wears dress shirts and slacks or a suit to work so I never had seen them before and it caught me off guard. He definitely rakes in $150,000+ so there are definitely circumstances where those people are paid reasonably well.

You seem like an intelligent person so it seems that you'd realize that while some people do get tattoos on a "whim or urge" many, actually most, put a lot of time and thought into getting a tattoo that actually means something to them.
