If you don't know the meaning of what today stands for, then you should be educated on it.
But there is a way to explain it that doesn't devolve into a lecture.

Know the reason for today, honor the dead heroes, and shut the frick up.

It’s to celebrate veterans, right? That’s what I’ve heard.

I’ve never understood people (especially those who have never served on a day like today) have to take to social media to scream about the meaning of the day? Why is anybody’s first reaction to run to social media to begin with?

You underestimate the ignorance of the people in this country. I would say Memorial Day is probably the least celebrated national holiday. It's mostly known for cookouts and mattress sales.

2010-2012 if memory serves.

It’s the OT which is full of gatekeepers on just about everything known to man.

It’s a day to honor the memory of those who died during their service.

Those who served know that Memorial Day is a day of mourning the fallen.

Sounds like you thought it was Veteran's Day

The National Memorial Day concert on PBS should be on every network in prime time. Today is the day we should be giving the spotlight to true heroes instead of obsessing over those who play dress up or play a game.
Sam Elliot Speech
Still though….grill hot dogs, drink some cold beer, and enjoy your freedom. That’s exactly what those Americans died to protect.

I see a lot of people lecturing others about the proper way to enjoy Memorial Day.
Thing is, there’s no wrong way to enjoy/celebrate it.
Do you want to spend it sitting in solace and remembering what was lost so we can have what we have? Good on you
Do you want to spend it on the lake getting drunk and being an American? Good on you.(I personally think this is what they would want.)
Just don’t forget what has been given up by so many so that we can enjoy it.

We have people celebrating George Floyd today, and not the million dead American servicemen who have given their lives for this country.
A little remedial education never hurt anyone, and is very apparently long overdue.

You get it, sir. I would expect nothing less out of a herk flyer, from a herk maintainer (AC-130H/W, C-130E/H/J, HC-130P/J)

So be it. If people want to know, they seek it out, otherwise, let them be.
