(Note: your response to this thread will be affected by whether your state or local municipality has enacted a smoking ban in restaurants.)

For those of you who remember when restaurants either allowed smoking wherever or at least had designated smoking sections, did it take a while for you to adjust to the way restaurants smelled?

Regardless of whether you were a smoker yourself, did it bother you that greasy spoon diners smelled clean?

I remember going to greasy spoons with my parents and getting a Pavlovian response to the smell of tobacco in the air. "There's going to be some good eating here."

I adjusted fairly quickly. Because i loved it.

It's nice that your clothes dont smell like shite just because you went to a bar or restaurant.

It was oddly normal.
The smoking sections smelled like smoke.

Totally against NOLA enacting their smoking ban, isn't something the government should do.

But it has made going grab a drink and eat more enjoyable. Going somewhere in JP or St Bernard and dealing with thw cigarette smoke is just fricking horrible.

It really wasn't that long ago that people were still smoking on planes.

While I fully disagreed with the government making a business smoke free (I am a non-smoker) I really enjoyed the cleaner air.

I usually selected places least likely to have a nasty smoke smell to frequent before the ban.

The good old days. Now these pussies wear a mask in the car by themselves.

You could say that about a lot of places, but you should 100% be able to smoke in men's stores or restaurants.

You should be able to smoke in any private business that allows it.

It's not the government's job to ban smoking in private businesses.

ETA: And just be clear, I would never enter any business that allows smoking inside of it.

My local watering hole skirts the line between restaurant and bar.

And honestly, I love sitting down to a meal and having other tables just smoking and drinking.

Reminds me of a simpler time.

And the food is good too.

I used to bus and wait tables at a real high end restaurant. We';d keep an eye out on the smokers and try to be Johnny on the spot to light their cancer sticks before they could. Made fist fulls of tips doing that. Nobody gave it a second thought cause people smoked everywhere back then.

I don't really remember having a reaction. I really don't remember going into any restaurants that had a strong cigarette smoke smell. Bars, yes, but not restaurants. Except maybe Waffle House at 2 or 3 in the morning.

These days, I can't stand going into the few bars that still allow smoking.

That’s your right, but not even a classy cigar bar or a tobacconist?

I used to go into Hemingway’s and bayou and I loved the smells. Is there even a good tobacconist with quality pipe tabacco in BR anymore?

I can still remember the stale smoke stench in my clothes after coming out of a movie. The theaters had smoking and non-smoking sections with separate entrances off to the right or left but still in the same room and usually only an isle separated them.
