A boat likely killed a family member. If the people jumped in the water the orcas likely wouldn't hurt them.

The way orcas flip great white sharks over to put them to sleep, then surgically remove their high fat content livers, and discard the rest of the corpse is probably my favorite animal behavior in nature.

Heaven forbid they catch a poor seal swimming in the ocean. They swat it with their tail like a soccer ball sending that thing airborne for hundreds of feet. It’s kinda funny how diabolical they are. If they catch a seal on ice they have learned to break the ice with their noses isolating the seal on an ice chunk and then they bob up and down creating waves that eventually force the seal to slide into the water.
I don’t think there is any record of a Killer Whale eating or attacking a human for food.

The explanation I read before was a female Orca had been run into by a small boat and had taught her family group to take revenge by ruining other boats.

Planet Earth showed this. Synchronized their swim patterns and tails to create a wake under floating ice until its at an angle and seal just slides off like a buffet into their waiting mouths.
