St. George will probably have one of the highest opioid use per capita in the state.
Would love to see the data that led to this conclusion
What is known is that the violent crime rate would be significantly less than neighboring BR... like night and day... or black and white if you will

The problem now is that's that BR has annexed so many of the businesses that made it a viable option. The Mall, Seigan Village, OLOL, Laberge, and more is not part of the proposed St. George anymore. I'm not sure that they could fiscally sustain the schools and fire dept anymore along with other city services.

If you mean they care about how their tax dollars are spent and that they go to better schools and better teachers than you are correct because right now their tax dollars are going to the EBRPSS which has simply not delivered a quality product.

This is correct. BR will eventually turn in to Jackson, MS and everyone will move to Ascension, Livingston, Central, Zachary or out of state. It's easy to see that happening if you look at the areas that used to be decent that aren't now.

As long is LSU is there South BR will be the same without much change in residents.

It already is in the St. George area. And creating the boundary lines of a city doesn't magically keep criminals out anyway.

Have you been to Jackson recently? Not even comparable. Most people move outside of BR proper because they're way cheaper, not because they're way nicer (which is why people move outside of Jackson). Some of the most desired neighborhoods in Baton Rouge are pretty centered in the city (Garden District, College Town, Bocage, etc.).
Baton Rouge has also made steps to improve certain areas that will pay dividends in the future. Downtown, the Nicholson Corridor, Government St., etc. Jackson has basically given up; most of the places in the city center look the same as they did 10 years ago.

The middle class working family that sends their kids to public schools makes up the majority of the area. Not the Bocage residents that send their kids to private schools. Until Baton Rouge fixes the public school issue, the majority of families will move where they can afford to give their children the best life possible. At the moment, that is outside of Baton Rouge away from poor schools and a rising crime rate.

Exactly this.
Work moved us to Houston last year and it was so enlightening after spending my whole life in BR. Schools are very good and road construction gets complete. Almost eerie.
Having a crappy, self serving local government full of thieves and their cronies didn't really seem to impact my everyday life until I got out and saw how stifling and inefficient it was. There is no reason BR couldn't have had better early on, except that people didn't care enough. Now it just seems like the numbers aren't there to salvage BR at the polls. Bring on SG. That's the only way I see us moving back.

My tax dollars go the EBRPSS and the product is so shitty that we don't even use it.

That is not the reason for bad BR Public Schools, responsibility needs to be taken by the parents and kids.

Who wouldn't take Opioids over murder? Saying that, you're either trolling or ignorant.

The typical EBR student population goes a long way into making them shitty.

The burden to prove a signature on a petition is legit is extraordinarily high. Like, if there's a tiny deviation from the way you signed your driver's license to how it appears on the petition, the registrar is like "NOPE! NEXT!".
my signature will get thrown out every time then every time i sign my name its different. every. single. time.

For what it's worth, I don't think anybody is really running it at the moment. They need new blood. You could be it....

You can't be serious, no one is running for anything right now; but if you are worried about politicians abusing the public trust I know you have to be concerned about the current regime downtown.
