Once you get into millionaire status and have no debt you can just self insure the house.
Investments should be able to cover the property taxes with ease.

I'm in Florida and I'm really hoping Amendment 3 passes. I know it doesn't completely abolish property taxes (school taxes remain and it simply raises the homestead exemption) but it will greatly help.

Property tax is the worst type of tax.
In addition to all the other reasons, the government caused the crazy price escalations. They’re incentivized to increasing the property value for more tax revenues.

Yep, property taxes continue to soar and yet we still don’t have anything to show for it (in Louisiana at least). The previous town I lived in claimed to have the top public school district in the state. I was paying 4k per year in property taxes then having to pay an additional 20k in private school tuition for two kids because the public schools were a joke. It’s maddening, and theft.

If I didn’t have a mortgage, I would self insure in Florida. Something I would have never considered 15 years ago, but the insurance there has gotten that bad thanks to government decisions by state officials.

That’s a valid complaint when you don’t see any value in what you are paying for. Lousy police, fire, emt services, crappy roads and sidewalks, corrupt planning and building departments, unkept parks, no local airports or hospitals.

Property taxes and school taxes are a bit different even if they seem to come from the same funding mechanism. Many places have a break on school taxes for seniors. I’d be in favor of a tax break for private school but not parochial. Religious schools shouldn’t get any public funding.

Parochial schools have a religious exemption and get to have pervy priests that fondle kids. Private schools don’t get that exception and are held to a higher standard than most public schools.
I’m not for tax dollars paying for some Muslim school in Michigan to train domestic terrorists and I’m not in favor of tax dollars going to priests fondling first graders in Boston.
Catholic schools (parochial) mostly provide a substandard education but get away with it because it’s religious and cheap.
In the rest of the country private school is expensive. The 6 private schools near me in NJ start at $50k before boarding. But the Catholic schools where your kids get raped are less than $30k.

I understand the govt needs money to operate and sustain programs but property taxes should have a limited term. 5/10/15 years, something? but there should be an end.
