Sad part is most pros all hate what travel ball has become. You aren’t getting a higher level of instruction from 99% of these “select” teams or coaches playing in pay to play tournaments.

Hell a few years ago I remember a travel ball “select” coach posting a critique of a video of a high school kid. Really critical, doesn’t have next level talent and such. Turns out, the guy in the video was none other than Mike Trout in his senior year. I think even Trout tweeted about it.

Edit: Here it is.

The insane amount of money wasted so Jhett and his team can win the U 12 Select All Stars World Series of June 11-17.

The reality is the average travel ball kid will go play Juco at a Juco you didn’t know existed before for a coach who didn’t know it existed and can’t wait to leave. It’ll be a horrible education and worse baseball experience and they’ll end up being 21 back at home with the parents trying to figure out if being a realtor is what they were meant to do. Luckily they have 73 World Series rings to treasure and brag about at the deer camp they only go to to tell stories about how great they used to be. They will end up married at 23 and divorced by 28 because they are just awful people. By 30 they are selling the latest pyramid scheme and hoping their dad will just let them work at the family insurance business so they have something to feel good about until Braxton Jr from marriage 1 is old enough for tee ball to start the process over.

Your kid is loser nerd. It’s ok . Don’t hate on others who have athletic kids. That's the joke. Your kids aren't as "athletic" as you think they are. It's like paying for "who's who," and touting it. Meanwhile, loser nerd gets actual full scholarship, and graduates into a six figure job. Braxxytn graduates thanks to social promotion with a C average, and drives an Amazon van.

Well, what about my daughter? She is in all gifted and talented, just scored an 1150 on the psat, and plays travel ball volleyball?

I guess I’m a loser, bad dad, dumbass for trying to give my daughter everything she wants to do.

Truth is, if your child is good at a sport, they have to utilize club ball to stay training, and keep up. The days of seasonal sports are over. They will get passed up by other kids that play year round unless said kid is just a freak athlete.

There are some slimy travel ball people out there and some shite travel ball parents.

But especially with softball, kids that have talent but have garbage Rec league options need some experience with quality competition before moving into high school.

Jeez are the only options these days to become a travel ball douche or a gangbanger

That’s the part that seems the shittiest, the pyramid money grab scheme, pay to play, and coaches just in it to promote their own kid.

Slippy either never played ball or has a ton of comic books on his shelf at home. Or his kids wanted nothing to do with playing sports.

Based on the little that I know.. Between my nephew having played in travel ball and having friends with kids who play.

The parents who take it over the top and actually think their kid will be some superstar is the minority of the parents, but of course they are the loudest.

And more times than not, their daddy either didn't play sports or was on the team, but didn't get a lot of PT. That's the same dudes who makes the worst coaches.

My kids were bored in rec and wanted the challenge. As long as they are having fun and being coached well I think the challenge of select baseball will pay off in life. Learning to work hard is a diminishing skill set these days.

by SlippyI mean the reality is Braxtyn is not as good as you’ve told him he was since he was 7. He’s not getting a scholarship. But maybe he’ll be able to root on his best friend Kaydyn who gets an offer from a junior college in northeast Arkansas. Do you bother adding up the wasted money at that point, or do you just pop a cold one and sit outside your trailer and think of what might have been?

Does this help you sleep at night being a low energy and low effort parent allowing your average kid to not ever achieve their best versions of themselves?

because travel ball "culture" is very easy to make fun of, everyone here knows these people irl, and the defenders of travel ball are easy to rile up.

and TD running jokes into the ground is nothing new.

I dunno man. My kids are grown. Maybe they’re average. But two of them were national merit scholars and all three graduated college with honors, so I dunno. Sleep? Yeah I guess I sleep okay, although occasionally I need a little chemical help. I’m glad your kid achieves the best version of themself by playing ball. Best of luck to them.
