Macau shut down all hotels and casino on February 5th. They have announced they are bringing all of them back online tomorrow. That’s 6 weeks. Roughly the same time most of China was shut down.
I’d guess we will be + or - 2 weeks to that timeline if we are aggressive on social distancing. I hope we are because dragging this out longer would be detrimental to the number of companies that could survive.
Edit: China has closed down its last Coronavirus hospital.
Apple has reopened their apple stores in China.

What liberties are being taken from you, specifically?
Quarantines, curfews, and shelter in place orders have happened many, many, many times in this country. And somehow, none of our liberties seem to be permanently impacted.

I don’t see football happening 2020-2021. Hope I’m wrong.

There are so many negative and unhappy people on this board that it’s pathetic!
Most of you and your family are rich in health and money and have beautiful homes and everything materialistic a person could need, yet you still manage to have such terrible and ungrateful attitudes!
Life is so short. Be kind, optimistic, and appreciative.

You are going to be very discontent.

When did the first US cases start popping up? Roughly 2 weeks ago?

That would mean over 500,000 people who will need critical care in a few months won’t have access to it.

China locked infected people into their own apartments. We have barely even gotten started on figuring out who our infected people are and spring breakers are still out there doing their thing.

I bet you would be singing a different tune if it was your business going bankrupt.
For the record, I’m not one of those people. But it’s people like you and our govt who say “Oh well, the ends justify the means.”
It’s a damn slippery slope and I’m not as excited as some of you about sliding down it. I also trust our govt “experts” about as far as I could throw them.

Pretty retarded considering 9/11 killed thousands and this disease has killed 100 over 2 months.

You didn't answer the question.

Why has it never been a slippery slope any of the other times businesses have been forced to close in a declared emergency?

This. At some point people will say "we have to start living again" and take the health consequences.

Who knows with this thing, but I'd guess April 1st we'll hear something positive.

"Normal" is tough. I have a hard time seeing them letting large groups gather anytime soon.
With that said, I think they could lift the restaurant/bar/non-essential retail/WFH ban as early as 4/1. They should probably enact a 50% occupancy type policy for a few weeks.
We have to stabilize the economy and it starts by doing that / getting people back to work.

That’s not true. Liberties taken away by a democracy in a crisis are almost always restored. You can say that we can’t board a plane without going through security, but it is facile to call that a loss of liberty. We can still fly wherever we want.
During WWII liberties were taken away from interned Japanese Americans, then restored. In fact, we completely took away the liberty of the conquered nations in WWII, then restored them all to liberty.
After Katrina there were curfews, and all kinds of restrictions. They were all lifted.
