When do you put up and turn on your Christmas lights for the season?

I put most of mine up yesterday, and will finish today. I usually don't turn them on until the night before Thanksgiving. Where I grew up, the town had an official lighting ceremony the night before Thanksgiving. George W. Bush flipped the switch one year. I usually leave them up through New Years Day.

Some of the neighbors around me are already lighting up, so I was wondering if I might as well just turn mine on tonight for the season.

What do you guys do?

Also, do you let your lights run all night, or do you turn them off at a certain time? I have mine on a timer I can control from my iPhone. Usually run them from dusk to 11PM Sun-Thursday; Dusk to midnight Fridays and Saturdays.

The weekend after Tgiving. Since having kids, it’s turned into a bit of a tradition that we go get a tree the Friday

Makes for a long time to figure out things for that #%*?! Elf to be doing for a month

I’ve got to the point where I just leave them up year round. We don’t have an HOA and they’re not really noticeable from the street anyway.

Big Catlick here, I like to wait until like Dec. 8th or so since Christmas does not begin until the 24th and ends on January 6th.

But, with a more insistent bride it usually gets a little earlier. I have been able to hold off, for years, until St. Nicholas Day, Dec. 6th as that is also our younger son's birthday. No dice, this year, they all want decorations.

They stay up until the 6th of January, however, then the Mardi Gras decorations go up. Lights stay on 24/7 because I don't have a switch and too lazy to go turn them all off. Besides, if we get a cold, dreary, overcast day, the Christmas lights provide some cheer.

Day after Thanksgiving usually. But I'll be out of town this year so will be doing it when I get back.

We don’t ever take them down. I thought this was the norm?

Day after Halloween.

Yeah I celebrate Thanksgiving, but I don't care if the decorations are early. Christmas is Thanksgiving with presents, so it's better anyway.

You’re allowed to turn them back on for the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, your birthday, and Easter.
