For most decisions, especially big ones, my wife and I talk to each other and come to a mutual decision. Like adults.

So, she wears the pants in your family. Got it.

Sure the wife would decide what everyone was wearing for the damn Christmas card or who was invited for the dinner party, but anything of real substance was decided by the dad. I have vivid memories of dad definitively making decisions about anything of any real importance and when he said what was happening now, the discussion was over, period.

That's more or less how we run Casa de la Medianoche. It's the way God intended.

Lately, though, most of my married buddies have seemingly taken this way too literally. They all constantly complain about being poor because "they had to get her her dream home" or "had to get her a new car" or couldn't go on a guy's trip because they had to go to Disney to get pics of their clueless 10 month old with Mickey Mouse because mom said so.

Democrats? Now, I will say some men aren't good at making decisions and aren't really good with money - if the woman is better at it, then he should have the wisdom to defer. I doubt that's happening with your boys - sounds like too much deference and not enough putting of the foot down.

Well you have a bunch of dudes who got married, had kids and became fat, sloppy losers who wonder why their wives don't respect them.

The ladies know their husbands don't have any other options and would be worth diddly poo on the singles market, so they treat them like shite.

I make money, stay in shape and drive a nice car. She does the same. I may be replaceable, but so is she. That threat of mutually assured destruction keeps everyone in line.

I joke with her about the stupid line "happy wife, happy life." I'm like frick that, what about my happiness? How about we both do what makes us happy because if I'm not happy, I'll make sure you're miserable.

I agree with every single word of this. I have never subscribed to "happy wife, happy life" and "if mamma ain't happy, ain't no one happy" that my married friends always talk about. How about mutual respect and happiness? I've seen many of my friends treat their wives and girlfriends as though they have that elusive golden pussy and let them push them around. The smart ones know that there are tons of golden pussies out there and do not tolerate any disrespect.

Why do you hate strong women? I don't want a woman that does what I tell her. I want a woman who will help me take over the world. Sorry you are a scared little man.

Will our kids come to the OT in 2030 and ask when did men start trying to piss in womens restrooms because they felt funny one day?

In my house, my wife makes 90% of the decisions.

If at any point I am asked for advice on something, my word is law. Zero negotiation, we do what I think is best. For better or worse.

It's nice to not have to deal with it. She's the home manager. I run the home company.

It sounds like your friends are just poor and/or terrible at money management and blame their SO instead of looking in the mirror.

You should get some new friends who make better decisions, hold themselves more accountable, and have higher aspirations in life.

you got it half right
the key to my happy marriage is that my wife thinks she's in control because I go overboard in telling her how competant/powerful/clever she is, and I encourage her to take control of those things that I'd otherwise just ignore

she feels like she's driving the bus, while I take care of all the important decisions. win/win

I've always seen it as the man being the CEO while the woman was the COO

It happened after WWII when men exchanged their blue collars for white ones. Used to, men did jobs women couldn't be expected to do, so that commanded respect. If you sit at a desk for a living, you're doing something a woman can do just as much as you, so you don't get the respect of a person who risks serious injury or death on the job.

It isn't so much that women have put on pants; it's that men are wearing girl pants now.

Also, a bunch of men are discussing this topic on an internet message board.

There's a hint.

I still think in a vast majority of hetero relationships, the man is still probably more in control of the "big decisions" (finances).

One of my friend's dad told me always let her think she's making the decisions, but always make sure that you actually make the important decisions because women are irrational emotional decision makers.

Swung for the fences with this one..

I agree with you btw, but in my opinion it all starts with the small shite.. the petty stuff. Women have worse egos than men do. Ever date a girl that was an only child? Or a 'princess' their whole life?

These women have more ego than the slapdick driving a F-250 through traffic while NGAF because he's making big business decisions on his cellica fone.. they can't stand when they are told that what they are doing is wrong or selfish.. when you become mad at them for something they did, they turn it around and get mad at you for being mad at them (still haven't found a way to combat this, any help would be greatly appreciated)..

I have found that they want to be told what to do. In fact, almost all girls want to be told what to do. It's built into them. You just can't be a pussy about it

Since I agree with hammertime, I think I'll go back to bed and just skip today. Something is definitely off today.
