When did this phenomenon of blowing all your yard waste into the street, start?

I remember raking and sweeping and bagging as a kid. Now all these lawn care companies just blow it all into the street for it to end up in storm drains or all over your freshly detailed car.
It's trashy and lazy.

At least is will biodegrade in a storm drain/river/wherever instead of clogging up some landfill.

My neighbor one down and across the street is addicted to his blower. I have a curb in front of my house and everything he blows goes right up against it after a few cars go by. Every couple of month I have to go out there with a shovel and remove it shite will grow from it.

I used to do this because the city would come by with a large street sweeper and suck it all up for free, however they quit this after me doing it for years and threatened to charge me $50 per bag if I didn't have it up by the end of the day.

One area near where I am. Nobody bags their yard trash. As soon as a big storm hits, they all complain about water issues even though it is their yard debris that clogs up all the storm drains.

It's illegal here in Austin to dump yard waste/grass clippings into storm drains. It clogs them up and can cause flooding problems during heavy rains.
Plus, as you said, it's just plain trashy and lazy.

I mulch and blow anything on the driveway back into the yard. But it doesn't bother me what others do as long as they cut/edge.

After I'm done cutting and weed eating I usually go grab a beer and wait for cars to pass to turn on my leafblower.

Nothing worse than pulling out of Pelican Point on two dollar off Tuesday, your $3 car wash on shine, and then bam Alejandro blows a nice cloud of clippings and lawn dirt all over you.

Blow it in the street and the cars whisk it away. Within a day or so it biodegrades. It's the only way to go. Better yet, do it in the evening and by morning all is good.
