When did people start needing acceptance from everyone?

Honest question here. Why do we feel like eveyone should like each other and accept each other for what they are, when it has never been done in history. Of course i wish that was possible, but it seems like a fight that can't be won. Why not instead teach kids how to have thick skin. I remember when I was a kid, the older kids on my street wouldn't let me play. My mom said, either find new friends or suck it up. Those days are gone. Now parents would make a huge deal about it.

If that's how you feel, it's OK with us.

Better now?

safe spaces are a sacred right guaranteed by the constitution these days, if you think otherwise you should be castrated and face a firing squad

This entire generation was caused by a "LIKE" feature by Mark Zuckerberg .

I put more of the blame on parents, but I could see how Facebook would help.

"We" do not feel this way. A handful of people feel this way, and they are more vocal than the rest of us. And as the more vocal segment, they wield power over governments and corporations through social media and mainstream media which can only thrive by reporting conflict, which it must sometimes help create.

A lot of the times I think it's somewhat of a subtle brag that people want to feel better about themselves.

This is a great question. I, also, cannot think of any other time in history when everyone was okay with everyone who was different from them. Theoretically, we should all reach enlightenment eventually, and move toward that, but I just don't see it ever happening. I can't blame people for wanting it, but is it against human nature to actually achieve it?

You obviously don't have kids or you'd know the philosophy remains the same. No parents I know are forcing other parents to have their kids play together.

I know I've told my kids to get over it and find new friends when those situations have come up for us.

To answer your question, I feel most people just want to be left alone and live free of harassment or fear their rights will be limited because of their race/sexuality/religion/beliefs.

There's a difference between acceptance and equality

I agree acceptance is impossible and honestly shouldn't be expected since it would infringe the other person's right to disagree.

But no one should be treated like a second class citizen in the eyes of the government.

I have twin 5 year old boys. We were at the Chick Fil A playground a week or so ago. 1 of my boys is playing hide and seek with another kid. When my other boy went to join, the other kid said he couldn't play with them. My boy came out to me crying.

I told him to march back in there and tell that kid to "go play in traffic" and then tell his brother just the 2 of them would play hide and seek.

He claims he did, and him and his brother definitely ditched the other kid to play games with each other. But I have my reservations on whether he actually told the kid to "go play in traffic," which was the most important part!!!

The answer is simple: social media

I don't care how you slice and dice it, social media has completely fricked the mindset of those who are consumed by it

There's a hint of truth to this.. people who constantly post on social media only want you to see their personal 'highlight reel'... even the 'I fricked up' posts have some sort of subliminal brag to them... it's usually 'I fricked yo and I know it but I'm going to be a better person because of it #newyearnewme #2017ismyyear'

STFU already

Ive been thinking a lot about it. Virtue Signaling is everywhere these days.

I tend to wonder what is wrong with being pretentious. I'm better than some people and some people are better than me. Its just the way it is.

I am still a 17 year old student and I notice this everyday at school. Every girl does everything they can to be accepted by either other girls or guys to notice them. Nobody really has a IDGAF attitude anymore and that's the problem is that whenever somebody does, others see it as they are "bitchy" or "they have a stick up their arse". Acceptance isn't seen as a privilege but rather as a formality now
