Had a meeting at a coworkers home this week. He had a theatre room with 2 rows of 3 fancy seats, USB ports, and, small table and all.

Note there is a distinction between a media room and a home theater. A media room will look basically like your average great room/living room/den but will be anchored by a large flat panel and discrete surround sound. A home theater will likely be a dedicated room with the ability to control light and usually sound absorption. They usually feature a large front projection screen higher quality sound and more theater-oriented seating.
Both have been driven by peoples preferences for avoiding movie theaters but mainly due to the costs of large-screen TVs and the huge reduction in the cost of high-quality high light output front projectors.

Having theater stadium style seating, a 100 plus inch screen, true surround sound, complete darkness and all the other bells and whistles at home beats the hell out of going to the theater. You can also close the doors and enjoy the living room for normal tv watching. Some of you guys have problems with the weirdest shite

My wife wanted to live in spring because the house had a movie theater but I decided on a place cypress because there is a community turf putting green and the better outback is closer

Media/theater rooms are awesome. My parents have one in there house and I enjoyed the hell out of it growing up. I'd love to put one in my house some day.

I love my movie room. The alternative is I take my young kids to the movie theater where they will sit right next to you and cut up. Is that what you want?

The house I'm in the process of buying has a media/theater room. I'll set it all up, but I'll primarily use it for listening to music. I'm not a big movie person, but I love relaxing before bed and listening to music. This provides me a place in the house to do so and not disturb my wife, or have to wait for her to go to bed before I can listen to anything.

When I decided to build our first HT about 14 years ago I was met with the rolled eye "whatever you want" expression from my wife. It quickly became the centerpiece of family and friends time, like pools were at one point. Now I am being "forced" to build one in the vacation house, oh noos don't throw me in that briar patch.

They've been around for years. The main difference was that people used super/regular 8 and 16mm projectors.
Some well heeled guys even had 35mm projectors.

Yes, nothing trashier than watching football games on a 120" screen with a good sound system. I'll be sure to let my guests know how trashy we all are when we watch the Super Bowl in my man cave/media room.
