Watching House Hunters and it seems like everyone wants a movie room.

Media rooms have been a thing for a long time. Where have you been?

Personally I think if you want to watch a movie then that's what the living room is for

Been shown a few "media" rooms while looking for houses in the Frisco area. Not really sure what makes them different from a bedroom or office room.

They’ve been a thing for a really long time. They’ve also been a really dumb thing for a really long time.

When 1) wide screen quality TVs became affordable
when 2) people wanted to watch movies
when 3) people got fed up with the misbehavior of other movie goers
when 4) when people decided they liked freshly popped popcorn with their choice of real butter.

Some are pretty elaborate. Have a friend that has one that’s very close to a MoiveHouse type setup, big comfortable reclining seats, screen probably about 20x30. Even has a movie theater popcorn machine and candy counter.

Which one of these requires a home theater?

They are as pathetic as a ‘man cave’. Spend time and share things with your damn family like a normal person.
