It's the people with their necks and most of their arms tattooed that scare me. Didn't see much of that in days gone by in Metairie.

There's nothing wrong with that area. I mean if a couple Hispanic families scare you then yeah. The areas with the apartments aren't great but they aren't that bad either.

Been a long time since I've been back. Just didn't "look as nice" the last time I passed through. Had no clue if it was considered good or not these days by folks down there that really know. It was for sure a great place to grow up though as a kid. People don't believe this, but we had literally 50 kids on our block (one family had 11, and another had 9). Some incredible games of kick the can and capture the flag went down.

Things started to look crappy because it was just getting old and outdated. Lots of stuff has recently been renovated or is in the process but sure you can find an eyesore here and there. It isn't a brand new subdivision. It is still very much a family oriented area. Lots of really old people too.

Haven't seen all the neck tattoo people that he's talking about. Don't go to the bars that attract them and you won't ever see them.

I went to watch a friends kid play flag football there a few weekends ago and holy hell did that place suprise me. I don't know how they haven't just bulldozed the damn place. And that property out back has to be worth a ton. Seems they would have sold some of that.

Really does unfortunately. Passed there a couple months ago for first time in many years and I don't know how those metal bleachers are still standing... looks like a death trap

Metairie only seems to draw from the group of people who want to live in the same area their whole lives or people moving to the city that cannot afford New Orleans/Lakeview.

I never hear of recent grads or families that were transferred here who decide to live in Metairie. (Old Metairie being the only exception to this).

Sounds like they've done nothing to it in the almost 40 years since I left, and I got to tell you, it wasn't pristine back in the late 70s/early 80s.

Before it was Ecole, it was Sam Barth, an all boys private school. The guy that owned it - Sam Barth, no less - used to delight in chasing about 20 kids off of his football field regularly. There was one place we could hop the fence/wire pretty easily, facing Kent Avenue. I can see him now, walking toward us with a long black trench coat/black hat, on a grey fall Saturday, while we're tearing up his football field. That was back in the day when there was ONE college football game on TV (two if you were lucky - one national/one regional). So, we used to play football all day instead of watching it.

Really was an awesome place to grow up.

You don't think that happens in New Orleans?

It happens but sure most people want to live in the city when they aren't from here. Makes sense.

Anything west of Lakeview to the Causeway is pretty much preppy white people who send their kids to Catholic schools. West of that might as well be considered Kennah Brah.

There are plenty of places in NOLA that are just as cheap or cheaper than places in Metairie. Not all of New Orleans is Lakeview, warehouse district, good uptown or good midcity.

The idea that New Orleans is some expensive place unattainable by Jeff parish people is pretty funny.
