What's your definition of "good parts of Metairie?" Old Metairie? There are plenty more good parts beyond that.

New Orleans is now mostly unattainable by the averagely-educated person. The exception is section 8 and people who have owned their houses since before Katrina. Even renovated places in the worst parts of Central City go for $150k+ these days.

I'm trying to think of the bad areas referred to.

I can think of 3 or 4, but I don't think that's abnormal considering the size.

The apartments between I-10 & vets on Houma

Along West Metairie ave heading into kenner

Where else? The area by girard playground? Huh?

I will never understand this. Value goes up, taxes should go up.

It's official, Metairie has the poor.

Real estate around New Orleans is one of the worst in the entire south. 230k gets you a house in Metairie that is 1800 sq ft thats inside looks like the brady bunch house

You don't think that happens in New Orleans?

Not saying that it doesn't, but New Orleans is a bigger city and pulls in a lot of different types of people for different reasons.
I am not saying New Orleans doesn't have its poor pockets, God knows there are plenty of worse places in New Orleans, but Metairie is not drawing in a lot young couples and families with money unless their parents live down the street.
The neighborhoods are getting older without as much renovating compared to what is happening in New Orleans.

The way people on here have been talking it up, I expected it to be a bit higher.

From Causeway to Transcon - NORTH of W.Esplanade to the levee is all very nice still. Between W.Esp and Veterans is decent but fading. South of Veterans might as well be lower 9.

You're totally right but does that make Metairie trashy? Not imo. It just doesn't make it the "it" place to live. It's the suburbs in 2014. Not that shocking.

I don't know whether to or at the jealous Metairie haters in this thread. Slander is what it is. Although whoever talked about Causeway as being a dividing line is right on. Out further by Kenner things definitely aren't as nice.

Bobby Hebert would not build a restaurant in a trashy area

Bit of a renaissance in Bucktown area as well. Lots of old houses getting replaced by new ones. (tiny lots though, similar to old Metairie in that regard).

It's the shitiest suburb in the south too. Old houses that arent really updated that are still expensive and still has shitty schools. It basically is a suburb that has no positive attributes of being a suburb. And I dont say this out of hate for Metairie i say it out of Anger for what we let it become
