There is a lot of stupid in this thread.
Reason for expensive houses in Metairie?
Land costs. A couple of lots down from my mother's house, an empty, never been built on lot, 50 X 120, recently sold for $190,000. And she lives west of Causeway, which some people in this thread have said is a trashy area.
And people saying that all the houses in Metairie are dated and look like Brady Bunch houses. There was an event in 2005 called Katrina that flooded many, many homes Metairie. These houses were updated with flood insurance money.
Oh, and my father paid $8000 for the the 65 X 140 lot in 1973.

I think it's a general society thing you're seeing these days with people gravitating to the lowest level possible, although perhaps it is more pronounced in some areas more than others.
