I think minus the last complaint that’s a nation wide change. No one is closed off in their little area anymore. And I blame Houston for the crawfish prices. People here go nuts for it. I don’t get it.

And I get that. I’m not picking on Lafayette. Discrete and insular cultures dying is something I talk about irl somewhat frequently. But the reality is that it’s happening. So places that used to be able to tout a unique culture as a feather in their cap are losing that as they become just like everyone else, except smaller.

People on this board are often a bit out of touch with restaurants and food scenes imo

Baton Rouge has great restaurants for a city of its size and notoriety

The weirdest thing about the BR hate is I went to LSU with a shite ton of OOS and international students and they fricking loved it

Now they act like they were in prison for 4 years

Yep yep. It’s not as good as major cities, and it’s not as good as Nola which punches way above its weight. But line it up against other quarter million pop cities, and it’s going to rank pretty damned high up the list.

I don't know anyone that would move there over Lafayette.

I know a lot of people from Lafayette who went to LSU; the overwhelming majority of them didn’t move back to Lafayette.

I don’t want to live there but it’s not the hell on earth as it’s usually described on here

Mandeville to Slidell has better restaurants than a lot of mid tier cities. A lot of people who were born and raised here don’t know how good they have it

ETA then a lot of the people who leave end up in the Houston area which obviously has great great

Mate, you’ve posted in these threads about BR’s food scene

BR's food scene is only better for ethnic food and fine dining (compared to Lafayette). If you don't like Cajun food, Lafayette's options can be limiting.

Most of them do if they don't end up in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta first. If given the choice between Baton Rouge or Lafayette, they pretty much all move back.

Not in my experience. Even ignoring those who move elsewhere, I know more who stayed in Baton Rouge than moved back to Lafayette

Maybe it’s because of my professions over the years but I’ve never seen that

I guess man.

I graduated from LHS in the late 2000's, LSU in the early 2010's. Out of the dozens of people I still keep up with, half of us are in Houston/DFW/ATL, there's a few in NOLA, and the rest are back in Lafayette. A few stayed in BR but moved away eventually.

Maybe it's my insular group of mostly LHS and STM grads.

I imagine it's also industry specific.

Most of my friends graduated in business, engineering, or education.

The STM kids did lol. Most of them were accounting (internal aduit program) or sales. Most of them ended up in Houston.

Didn't know any that did except for a dude who started out in BR and eventually moved to Houston. When I graduated though, the exploration in the GULF was at it's peak. A lot of O&G companies in Lafayette and Houston were offering super high salaries for entry level engineers (this was in 2012).

Baton Rouge is an epic shithole on par with Memfrica and Jackson MS. One of the worst places in America. Laffy is 10x better than BR. Super nice people. Super hot chicks. Great food and culture. Pretty much polar opposites.
