Lots of gypsies around Memphis. My BIL is a sign maker and they advertise their underage daughters using yard signs to secure dowry’s

There has been a whole enclave of gypsies (called Travellers or Irish Travellers) in Murphy Village SC for many decades. The go out around the country selling scams (one of the ones, when I was a kid, was resurfacing driveways which amounted to spraying some black paint on them). Then they come back and hang out in Murphy until time to go back out. They build McMansions with their scam money.

Their culture isn't compatible with Europe, much less America. Some run a lot of low level scams and move around. Completely different value system.
The more established ones will set up shop in town and run Medicare or home health scams using falsified identities. There's an entire division of OIG/DOJ that just prosecutes that kind of crap and much of it is foreigners who run it in large urban areas.
They get heat, they disband and leave. It's maddening trying to track them.

There's a huge infestation of them in Texarkana doing shoddy paving work. A buddy of mine let them pave a driveway to his camp in Arkansas and when they yanked the price up from $1200 to $8500 he said he was going inside for his checkbook but called the sheriff instead. They hauled arse as soon as the law drove up. He was willing to pay the $1200 but they didn't seem to want to wait around. He ended up getting it for free but it didn't last a year.

I was also there recently and noticed the same thing. There also weren’t as many Muslims as I thought. Some in bigger cities but not overrunning, and none in smaller cities.

Had this happen at my shop about a year ago. Guy comes in and does it over a weekend when no one was there. Comes back Monday morning giving some sob story about how he is broke and nobody will hire him. I told him that I didn't have anything to pay him at the time (I really didn't) that I would pay him a little something in a couple weeks if he left his number.
So I called a few weeks later and his dad answered the phone and said he'd been arrested and was in county jail.

Travelers and gypsies are different ethnic groups. They have very similar cultures and value systems, but they're not the same people.
Travelers are like Brad Pitt in Snatch, and the people in Murphy Village. I used to live in Augusta, and you knew when the Travelers were out and when to avoid certain restaurants. They would literally show up in a swarm and overwhelm a hibachi joint, cause a ton of confusion, and get out with paying a fraction of the bill. The locals despised them.
