Hip Hop music going mainstream really ushered in the big butt era. But up until recently they were just big and fat.

I've been going to LA Fitness religiously since the mid 90's and here in Orlando the butt-centric workouts weren't a thing until maybe two or three years ago.

Now when I go to the gym there is still only a handful of women doing free weights but now everyone of them only do butt exercises for the whole hour. Various squats, lunges and good mornings plus band work.

Used to be the 5 women would be doing full body workouts benching the bar, doing curls with 5 pound dumb bells and spending 30 min on cardio. Now its all arse all the time.

I don't think its a bad thing, seeing an in shape chick in yoga pants doing butt work is better than a tatted up dude doing clean and jerks. And an muscular butt is better than what we got in the previous fat butt era with Kim Kardashian and her ilk.

As American women keep getting larger and larger....... the goalpoasts keep moving as to what is hot. Now many guys prefer thick women with large butts who border on the fat side. We’re a nation of hogs now, the thin pretty women are hard to come by.

I freaking love a nice solid butt on a girl.

Agreed. This is a fairly recent phenomenon. Being toned in the gym isn't the same as trying to make your arse as big as you can.

Comes and goes out of fashion historically.

Have you not seen paintings that feature "Reubenesque" women with the thick asses and thighs.

Then you had just the opposite in the 60's when models like Twiggy were the rage with their shapes looking more like a young teenage boy-----straight up and down with no curves to speak of.

As for me, you can keep the Kim Kardashian's of the world and give me a woman with a firm, athletic build with defined curves.

The first time it bent over in front of me. Can’t argue with evolution.
