Not Catholic but I prefer parish over county. County sounds very redneck. And I like rednecks. Just think the word itself sounds dorky-redneck.

Parishes in Louisiana were originally based on the ecclastical boundaries of the Catholic parishes within the colony. They come from the French colonial period and predate the formation of the United States.

Don’t know what Pennsylvania has, but New Jersey definitely has townships. I spent many many summers up there in the past.
The particular town I spent most of my time in was Brick Township
