Agreed, had a 2013 f-150, intended to keep until the wheels fell off. Paid it off, no issues for 5 years, but once I hit 120k, started with electrical problems, then radiator issues (stuck on the side of the road twice for that).
Last straw, transmission fluid line busted in the new radiator, sending transmission fluid through the entire engine coolant system and spewing out of the radiator reservoir like a volcano.
Spent too much to repair and the truck never drove the same. Sold at 130k miles. Changed my view of buying/paying off vehicles

It’s amazing how many people choose to buy unreliable vehicles and/or take shitty care of their vehicles.
So much on that least is fixable with very little effort at low cost, or totally avoidable by not being a disgusting slob.

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra with only 126K miles on it. I run all Mobil 1 lubrication products in it. Mechanically, my great grand kids could probably drive it some day. But after 21 years in the Arizona heat, it seems like I have to replace some plastic or rubber part every other month. That shite is starting to get old. But I'm not about to to replace it with a vehicle that comes with a $700 a month payment and that gets driven about 500 miles a month.

Some people just won't deal with things.
My mom had an AC issue on her Toyota. Still with 2 years on the warranty.
Dealer said it can be one of two things. Let's do the first one and if that doesn't fix it we will do the second.
First one didn't fix it so my mom just said frick it and got a new car.

Yet this is exactly what a lot of people do - even at higher mileage than you. It’s one of the many reasons poor people stay poor. They would rather sink more money into a quickly depreciating asset than incur minor less costly temporary nuisances for a less depreciating asset.

I agree. I had a truck that the radio no longer worked and the air conditioning no longer worked, but it ran.

Speaking for myself on older vehicles I had, there is nothing worse than admitting defeat and having to bend over and take it from a mechanic on a job that I just don't have the chops and tools for. I would rather Mike Tyson just punch the shite out of me than pay thousands to someone knowing I'm getting ripped off from every angle (parts, labor, etc). So I tend to cut bait after about 5-7 yrs on my cars just to avoid this manhood gut punch.
