“Wheel of Fortune” is putting a positive spin on things, after being accused of depicting slaves in an image from its “Southern Charm” week. After being called out on social media, the popular game show has decided to replace the background image in future airings. “Wheel of Fortune” executive producer Harry Friedman also said that the show regrets having used the image in the first place.
“We regret the use of this background image, and we will be replacing it moving forward on any rebroadcast,” Friedman said in a statement provided to TheWrap on Monday.

While the game show’s “Southern Charm” week originally aired in March, the image apparently didn’t capture viewers’ attention until last week, when a Twitter user identified as Joshua Itiola tweeted, “Someone please tell me why @WheelofFortune has slaves in their ‘Southern Charm Week’ images?”

An individual familiar with the situation told TheWrap that the image in question was a screen grab taken from footage shot on location in 2005 for a New Orleans “Wheel of Fortune” remote. The image, which was unaltered, depicts two Oak Alley tour guides.

A spokesperson for the restaurant and inn told Fox News that, while its employees do not portray slaves, tour guides do wear period clothing.

This really is unfu*kingbelievable.

Yep, folks. Plantations are next on the list to be burned and erased from history.

The new plantations are inner cities run by Democrats. The difference is plantations were nice places to live and had a lower crime rate

So this idiot sees black people and assumes they are slaves but Wheel of Fortune is the one apologizing?

Top 10 crime infested cities in the U.S. all have democrat mayors. Not surprised.

Seems to me assuming any black person is a slave. Did they really think that color picture was from the 1800's.

The plantation really shouldn't offend anyone but the slaves outside the plantation is kind of a dumb move for sure.

So now Oak Alley is racist for employing women of color as tour guides? WTF.

Jesus. I know this goes without saying but they really are just looking for a reason to be offended. Hell that episode is several months old, they did Southern Charm week back in March. Last week was just a re-run.

And it's a damn shame that I watch so much Wheel of Fortune that I remember exactly when Southern Charm week was

Nah.

But having a plantation be a representation of "Southern Charm" is a bad look. It's such a cliché look and without proper context it seems like we glorify them or something.
