Only because I own a beautiful example of one will I go with the Smith and Wesson M1917 revolver. Only 160k or so were made and of those, only the first 45k serial numbers made it to the front in WW1.

I am the proud owner of number 32,648.

Shotgun news had a lengthy article about the BAR a few years ago. They pretty much said it was one of the worst rifles ever fielded by our military. Apparently the magazine has an accordian style spring that becomes weak over time and eventually renders the gun useless. It said many soldiers lost their lives because the weapon failed to fire.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that I have the Colt model of the same gun. They called it the 1917 DA. I've got what I assume is the original cavalry holster with the flap. Someone replaced the grips with pearl long before it came to me. It looks cool but it would be worth more in original condition. Do you use the auto rims or the acps with the clips? You actually can fire acps without the clips but your empties won't always eject cleanly. Not really a problem if you're just shooting beer cans, as beer cans rarely shoot back. You can just poke your empties out with a twig. It would be tough to conceal but if you ever needed to smack somebody with a pistol it would be a fine choice.

I have one of these - M1 Carbine and I absolutely love it. My grandfather brought it in 1945 just after the end of the war.

Maybe the Garand. Maybe even the Ma Deuce. But I'm really digging the carbine.
