What’s your AC runtime per day the last few days?

It sure seems like all day.

1 window unit on dehumidifier setting.

I am not paying to A/C a 5 BR 2500 sq. ft. house when I am only in one room. No one else lives here, including me out and about 9-12 days/month.

My bill is less than $75/month.

I have a basic thermostat. Set at 74 24/7 while in AC mode.

My Nest says it’s been running 19 hrs a day. Monster electric bill.

You have three ac units each running nearly 9/10 hours a day and your bill is only $300 a month?

Unless ecobee has the hours wrong. My house pulls 62 amps with all 3 units running and it is like $0.12 per kwh. I could do the math if you want. To be fair, that was the weekly average not the previous Entergy billing cycle running average.

Two assumptions:

1. current draw is equal on each unit (given run times are close, this makes only a small difference)

2. All 3 units are 240v; this could make a much larger difference if 1 or more are 120v


Given your run times listed, you average 9.5 hours per day per unit:

62A @ nominal 240v equals 14,880W, so 14.88 kWh per hour of run time for all three.

14.88 kWh * 9.5 hours per day * 30 days in a month = 4240.8 kWh per 30 day month.

4240.8 kWh * .12 dollars per kWh = $508.90

I have it set to 75 and it runs 24/7

There’s no point in setting in any cooler than 75 because it’s never gonna get there
