I'm going there in a few weeks for a convention, and I was curious if any OTers know of any cool things to do and cool places to go out. TIA

Twins game if they're in town, the grain mill tour is really awesome believe it or not, there are great restaurants (just google them -everybody has their own taste) and it's fun to walk through the warehouse district along the Mississippi River - lots of history and great walking guides that you can download.
My favorite thing is honestly the food. I'd also get drinks at the W (I either stay there or at Le Meridien) and bum around there - it's one of the hippest W's in America.
Lots of Somali immigrants as well - kind of fun to glare at the ones dressed in the full garb to let them know you think they should assimilate better.
ETA: best chicken and waffles I've ever had at Libertine, which is a $6 uber ride away and is located in kind of their "Magazine Street" area.

St.Paul Saints minor leaugue ball has a new park which is very nice. MOA is nothing special, unless you really like malls.

There is no better example of how weird Minneapolis is than the fact that a minor league team somehow remains a fairly big draw even though you have a top 10 MLB stadium in a top 10 MLB neighborhood less than 15 minutes away. I just don't get it
And it's not you can't get Twins tickets for $10 or so (or even for free) with a little advance planning. Minor league sports are for cities like Fargo and Biloxi, but more power to ya'll
I think this kind of attitude is how Jesse Ventura got elected Governor of the state, though. You guys (like Portland) have this huge "embrace weird for the sake of being weird" chip in you.

Purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

Could go tour the new US Bank Stadium (Vikings new stadium) Target Field is really nice and tickets are next to nothing. 5 8 Club for a Jucy Lucy. Not sure when you'll be here, but if it's at the end of August the MN State Fair will be going on and that's a big deal to these people.
