Old cinder-block slaughterhouse in a sugarcane field in Erwinville back during the 90s. Had to be there before sunrise. It always felt like driving onto the set of a horror movie.

East St. Louis. My company was looking at buying a manufacturing site there. The control room had red panic buttons everywhere, in case some of the locals breeched security and came in the control room to rob the operators. I’ve never worked so hard to list environmental liabilities so that we wouldn’t buy it. The company people told us that the municipal fire department wouldn’t respond to fires because they kept getting shot at.

Erie PA, Youngstown OH, Jackson MI, Enterprise AL, the SoCal "Inland Empire", Lufkin TX, a really sad Mississippi town near Tupelo w/ a furniture mfg plant, and more poultry plant towns in GA, SC & NC than I'd care to remember.

I had to go to the warehouse in Independence, LA that was the evacuation site for over 800 nursing home residents. That was pretty bad.
You worked for Bob Dean?

Talara, Peru. Flew in at Midnight to Lima, waited an hour to unload the plane. Didn't get to airport hotel until 3:00 am. Translator met us at airport at 7:00 am to fly North to Talara for an 11:00 meeting. Waited outside the gate in what is a legit 3rd world area in sports coats with the locals staring at us for 20 minutes. Had the meeting which could have been done via teams to answer technical questions. When I brought up commercial issues and offered a solution, potential customer all but admitted they were going to buy one or two of our widgets and reverse engineer them. I said the meeting was done and we headed back to airport. Sent my CEO a message and told him to not sell a single widget to any firm in S. America for a few months. Got back to Lima at 5:00 pm. Only flight back to Houston was midnight. Got drunk at airport and flight was packed and full of turbulence. By the time I got back to Baton Rouge it was 10:30 and I told my wife not to wake me the rest of the day.

Port Harcourt Nigeria.
One of the top 4 or 5 most dangerous cities in the world.
I saw some shite there I can't repeat.
It took 2 or 3 days back home before the smell was out of my sinuses.

A hotel in Galliano - not that the hotel sucked but we had to quarantine for 48 hours in our rooms which was absolutely boring as fricking.

Just incredibly boring. It was January, too and I'm not cut out for Midwestern winter. The weather was probably the main issue. It was 20 years ago and that's the main thing that sticks out.
