What's The Right Thing to do RE: Fender Bender

The other day, I was in the merging lane to get onto a highway (not interstate). The lady in front of me begins to go, I follow, glance over my shoulder to see if I'm clear.
She stops.
I stop, but barely tap her back bumper with my vanity plate cover.
No damage at all to my car. She had a little paint and a scratch about the length and width of a nickle laid lengthwise. Nothing really. You pick up bigger from gravel kicked up from the road.
We part ways after exchanging information.
Now, she wants a new bumper, and will be getting an estimate.
I'm not obligated to do anything. There's no police report. She can call my insurance company and they will tell her to pound sand, but I want to do the right thing.
Should I offer her a couple, three hundred bucks and tell her to do what she will with it to repair the cosmetic damage.
I don't think buying her an completely new bumper is necessary, but I'd like to get every one else's opinion.

LSU student hit me a couple of months ago in the exact same situation. I got my detail guy to touch up the paint and buff it out for $150. They wrote him a check. The way civilized people act.

damn, you shouldn't have hit and run like that, even if you were drunk

That's what I'm hoping for. Let the body shop put some filler in there, match the paint and buff it out. I don't feel comfortable, or able really, to buy her a whole new bumper for a scratch.

I hit some body in stop and go traffic a couple years ago. Left a little (less than quarter sized) knock in their paint. Exchanged info, offered to pay in cash for wherever they wanted the body work done. Fast forward 2 weeks and my insurance notified me that I was being sued in an at fault accident with Injuries that resulted in 2 weeks lost work time for the individual.
Mfing highway robbery.

I wouldn't buy a whole new bumper...offer to pay for a reasonable repair of the chip and if she doesn't like that, she can deal with your insurance company.

If you speak to her on the phone go ahead and assume that you're being recorded.

Same thing happen to me a few years back. My car had a simple scratch that I wasn't worried about. Young lady called her mom and she wanted a police report. So called the police. I ask permission to take a few pictures of her car. The state police officer arrived and looked at her car. And would fill out a report but couldn't find anything wrong with her car so he refused to mention any damage (the daughter called her mom once her arrived).
The mom was insisting that he mention the damage. He asked for the daughters phone so he could speak with her - and told me to have a nice day.
Some people.

Keep blasting it on the internet and I'm going to miss another 2 weeks of work

I had a hit and keep going a few weeks ago. My insurance company said to not accept cash payment. This company wants to write me a check for my car damage and rental car but I'm not sure how they can insure that the rental car will be paid properly.
Sometimes it takes longer than the estimate and I need my vehicle. What do I do?

If she really wants to push the issue, I'd ask her to take it to a body shop of YOUR CHOOSING and see what they say.
If the "damage" is what you say it is, no way a new bumper would be justified.
All this being said, there is no WAY I would pay for it. A touch up on the paint job? Sure, depending on how she chooses to move forward.
Typical people though, man. Always trying to screw someone. I seriously doubt she would get a new bumper put on anyway. Probably just pocket it.

Got hit in rear Quarter panel on College and Foster when I was about 19. Guy said he couldn't call the cops so offered to write me a check. I don't do bouncing checks from strangers so we went down the street and he smashed the check and gave me $1500 cash.
I popped the trunk, took a rubber mallet and with one swing popped the dent out.
Then I went to Destin for a week.

Had a guy hit me a couple years ago. Felt like he slammed me, but it barely left a scratch on my paint. Oddly enough it happened in front of some police officers, so I had them write a report just in case my bumper fell off next day or something. I repaired the scratch, guy sent me $30 to cover it, called if a day

Will confirm that you hit her rear bumper and pay for the repairs to her car. Be it paint work or a new bumper.
