Complete and total waste of time? Or are they actually giving people some cutbacks?

There's supposedly a "community meeting" at St. Dominic tomorrow which I assume will devolve into an hourslong bitch session. I will probably go anyway because those St. Dominic moms are

They effectively removed my homestead exemption from the past year with the new increase.

Haha they always find a way to offset the homestead exemption

*For OP i've read that appeals have been successful if you show up at the designated offices with a current appraisal in hand that disputes the increase.

Get an accurate appraisal and comps from a real estate agent and go please your case...

I won an appeal a few years ago and that's how I did it.

You got off easy brah - I'm up ~40% and that's five years after purchase.

I'm hoping "honestly my house is much shittier than my neighbors just come look around" is a valid ground for appeal

How much longer do I have for appeals?

Also, the map the assessor put out and the page on his website for my address show two different amounts.

Go in with a purchase agreement at their appraised value.

Make them sign it.

Profit.

I'm just here to point and laugh at people who put up with Orleans Parish's high taxes and complete shite for public services.

And FWIW, heard on the radio this morning you have 10 days left if you want to file an appeal

And Latoya wants to put a tax increase of 3 mils on the ballot next election. You can't make this shite up.

If you plan on filing a property tax assessment appeal in New Orleans, you have until August 19 to do so. And the assessor says people can go to one of three locations; City Hall, the Algiers Courthouse or the Lakeview Christian Center.

I'm in the process of buying a house in Nola, got hit with a 40% tax increase as a thank you. Not sure if there is anything I can do since I don't currently own it....

I would fight it anyway - bring a copy of the purchase agreement.

What could be better proof of value

I’ve gotten 3 separate “reassessment” letters with different values. What a shitshow. Still lower than my appraisal though

I won appeals twice with the assessor's office in the past 8 years.

1) First time they never sent me a letter telling me when my appeal was. Received a letter a week after I "missed" my appointment. Of course when I looked at my file, it was processed at 1:35 am on a Friday morning. Appealed to the state and won, state official came out and took 15 minutes and said I was correct.

2) Appeal #2 few years later, received an appointment time from the city on this one. Wife went in with the previous information from the state. City said they couldn't use it, because it was out of date.
My wife told them that my house didn't grow an additional 800 square feet since the state's appeal. So the assessor reversed it.

Yes, the city some how had randomly added over 800 square feet to my house. Told my brother about, he checked and his house grew by 500 square feet, so he also appealed and won.
