The most cash I've held in my hand is $5,500. I was going to buy a car with it but the deal fell through. How much of your own cash have you held in your hand?

Well that sounds like a terrible idea. At least you weren’t shot and/or robbed.

Why would you need to pay him in cash?

$26,000

Similar circumstances except, we originally purchased a car from a dealer who bought the car in another state but didn't register the car and pay fees/ taxes in the state he was selling it in (bunch of circumstantial & legalese I don't understand). Either way, he repaid us in a certified check and I didn't trust him. Immediately took the check to his bank and cashed it. Walked out of the bank with $26,000 in a brown paper bag (supplied by the bank). The bank manager had to open the vault to fulfill the transaction. They hand counted it three times and ran it through the automated counting machine twice. It must have weighed #3... I felt like a Narco hauling that shite around. This was on a Friday. Took it to my bank the next morning. The branch manager had too many questions about the situation but ultimately, everything worked out.
