Wife and I were coming back from Austin after Thanksgiving when that pepto bismol truck overturned and caught on fire on the Whiskey Bay Bridge.
Thank God it happened heading west bound. Some of those poor people were stuck on there for 12-14 hours I think.

I wonder how many days of my life I've spent stuck on the Atchafalaya basin bridge.

Four hours here between Hendersonville and Asheville in a snowstorm a couple of months ago. At a standstill.

- I was stuck on the MRB about 1/3 of the way (too far up to get back, not far enough to see over the crest). Everyone had their cars in park. People were sitting on their tailgates and hoods. It was late evening. I had my truck in park and was dead tired.
I dozed off.
When I awoke it was over an hour and a half later cars were flying by me like I was a rock in the middle of a raging river. Scared the living daylights out of me.
- I was once stuck on the damned Natchez Trace behind a house being moved. We were behind this thing for hours; the police escort refused to move over and let the insanely long line of built up traffic pass. We even called the State Police hotline to complain. The operator said we weren't the first to complain but there was nothing she could do.
- It took me over an hour to get from the Millerville to O'Neal exits on interstate once. That fricking sucked.

I left Houston for Rita, only to drive to Louisiana and into the storm.
Leaving Houston took about 10 hours.
We were back in Houston within 12 hours

Last summer my wife got stuck in a parking lot at youth sports complex for about 75 minutes without getting out of her parking spot. A large soccer tournament and baseball tournament going on at the same time, big thunderstorm rolls through and all games are cancelled and everyone tried to leave at the same time. Horrible, horrible, horrible parking lot design had her trapped in a parking spot while no one would let her back out.

The longest length of continuous traffic I've ever been in was during a hurricane evacuation from Biloxi... took me all day to get from Biloxi to Baton Rouge.
And I do mean ALL DAY! I saw the sun rise after I started driving and saw it set again before I made it into Baton Rouge.

I had 2 really bad ones.
One in 06-08 range. My dad was driving us from Houston to New Orleans on Christmas day and it was snowing.
I 10 shut down between BR and Nola. Had to take Airline. It took over 6 hours.
The other was about a year ago. Coming from Orange beach back to Nola. Left at 11 PM Sunday night to try to miss traffic. Got stuck at the LA MS border so long I didn't have time to go home before work at 7 AM

Longest was about 4 hours on I-16 coming home from Savannah. Tractor trailer had flipped and caught on fire shutting down east and west bound traffic. If you have never been on 16, there can be stretch of 15 miles between exits.
The second longest was on I-10 west of New Orleans as I was heading to Deridder, LA for a plant shut down. There was a wreck on the bridge and traffic was a parking lot. After reading the comments daily on this site, that seems to be a daily occurrence. I was just happy to have a gatorade bottle in the truck to use as a urinal.

Took me 15 hours to get from Destin to BR after the 4th of July. Think the fastest I ever got up to on that tip was 30 mph for about 20 minutes
Did you have a good mpg rating for the trip? ha

Whatever total fricking retard designed the roads around and the entrances/exits for parking around the ballpark should be fired, publicly disembowled, quartered, and have his head placed on a spike outside the civil engineering department as a warning to all not to design something so horribly wrong ever again.

That seems a bit excessive if I'm honest

Yea the Atlanta Ice storm, Katrina/Rita, and Gustav should be hands-down winners for Southerners.

21 hours to get from S. Louisiana to Birmingham for Gustav. About 10 of those hours was from Slidell to Hattisburg.
For some reason they had I-10 East closed so everybody evacuating east (for a west traveling storm) had to go north through Hattisburg before going back south.
MS state police also had every single exit blocked off to Hattisburg. frick those frickheads.

Hurricane evacuation the year before Katrina....I think it was Ivan?
12 hours to get from NO to BR. 19 hours total to get to Houston after stopping in BR at a gas station and buying a map to use to figure out some back roads to avoid being stuck in traffic on I-10 the whole way. Had to drive the entire way because my passenger didn't know how to drive a stick shift. Worst part was that we left at 1pm and after being on the road all night and barely being able to keep my eyes open, we get stuck in Houston morning rush hour traffic.
