3 hours while driving through Nashville because they were changing a sign on the interstate and shut down 4 of the 5 lanes of traffic.

Hurricane Rita
90 miles from Houston to Livingston took 13 hours.
Never again will I leave Houston because of a Hurricane.
As someone mentioned before, Hurricane Ivan (the year before Katrina) had an evacuation of New Orleans and the contraflow traffic was a nightmare. Top it off with the hurricane taking a easterly turn and not even damaging New Orleans that bad, and you had a lot of people swear "never again". Welp, Katrina comes rolling into the Gulf, and many New Orleans residents refused to leave after the Ivan traffic nightmares.

My story on the previous page was the day I saw my girlfriend of ~ a year (at the time) squat on the side of I-10 and take a piss.

Whatever false alarm hurricane that was back in around 1999 or so. Took me eight hours to drive from New Orleans to Baton Rouge on a Sunday. I went down to New Orleans to go to some party the day before. I had no idea there was any kind of disturbance or threat in the gulf.

2 hours. I-10 Eastbound between Sorrento and Gramercy. Fatal crash in a heavy Thunderstorm. Turned off the engine and called work.

Most of my coworkers slept in the office that night.
Some of mine did as well. They walked to a gas station (Southside Birmingham) and picked up beer, grabbed pizza from Hungry Howie's and watched movies in the conference room on the big TV. They said it was good, other than sleeping on the hard floors.

Back in the 80s the wife and I were stuck almost all night on I-10 over the Atchafalaya Basin when a truck wrecked and burned on the high bridge. We were returning to Lafayette after a night game. This was before they had the crossovers to divert traffic in these situations. We stayed there almost till dawn - met some really nice people milling around on the road waiting.

4 1/2 hours. Left work at 4 pm and got home at 8:30 pm. Normally a 20 min drive.I couldn't complain really though 3 people burned to death ,in a car, on the bridge when it was struck by an 18-wheeler.The detour around the bridge took me about 4 plus hours of bumper to bumper traffic and ended up being like a 70 mile trip when my house was like two miles from the bridge where the accident took place.

3 hours at a dead stop with the car off. Three 18 wheeler rollover wreck a mile in front of me on an interstate. No exit between me and the wreck and the median didn't have a crossing.

Four plus hours, coming home from Copper Mtn. to Golden.
Very large snow storm, Eisenhower Tunnel, jackknifed 18 wheelers, etc.
Never again.
