The hardest drive was in 2005 when evacuating Lake Charles before Rita hit.. It took 16 hours to go from Lake Charles to Shreveport. A nightmare all the way.

Well, I was on a motorcycle for damn near 24 hours straight and traveled just over 1100 miles in that time.

It probably wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't in the low 40's from sunset until damn near dawn when I finally got home.

Past Memorial Day weekend. Attempted to fly to Vegas to meet Mrs Prez for a long weekend while she was there for work. Left MSY at 1000 on Thursday. Thunderstorms and a fricked up American Airlines issue got me stuck in DFW. Tried to fly back home at 930pm, delayed til 0100 until the crew timed out. AA told me they couldn’t get me on a flight to Vegas until Sat morning. I got flight back to Nola at 0900 Friday morning, went to ticketing and they got me on standby on a flight to Vegas at 1pm and a seat on a flight at 5pm. The flight back to Nola ended up getting cancelled as well anyways. The flight to Vegas left at 7, and I sat down to eat dinner with my wife in Vegas at 1008 pm Vegas time. I’d had about 3hrs of sleep in the last 48.

BYW, American Airlines can go to hell. They basically have no way to recover a mass delay issue from a crew standpoint, let alone a passenger standpoint. Most of the issues were they couldn’t get flight crews assigned to flights.

1300 miles and 21 hours on a motorcycle. From Tucson Arizona back to Louisiana.

It was brutal!

Longest day turned into days in October of 1997. Flying from Seattle to Colorado Springs a massive blizzard forced a diversion to Denver. Two days later, I was still stuck in the Denver airport with 3,000 of my closest friends. It was quite an unpleasant 55 hour experience.

Atlanta to Phan Thiet Vietnam...

3hrs early at Hartsfield ATL, 16.5 hr nonstop to Soeul SK. 3hr layover, 5.5 hrs to Ho Chi Minh city. Then a 5 hr van ride to Phan Thiet...

33hrs from the ATL to Phan Thiet for my sons wedding. 15 days later did it in reverse. Was Feb of 2020, barely got back stateside before the Covid lockdown. All they asked us was had we been on a side trip to China...

Naples, Italy to New Orleans

Disembarked a cruise ship in Naples early one morning. Our plane was delayed in Naples (the Naples airport and train station look very third world). We had a layover in Paris, but when we arrived at CDG our plane to the US was still at the gate, but they had closed the door and wouldn't let us on. There was only one more flight available to the US that day and that was to New York. We got to New York that night but couldn't get a flight to New Orleans until the next day. Since the delay was the airline's fault, they put us up in a cheap hotel near the airport. We got home the afternoon of the next day.
What an ordeal.

Worked 20 years in the mideastfareast. and 30-35 hour trips were normal. A memorable trip from Damman Saudi to Victoria texas was a day before Christmas Eve. Got to the Houston airport and was told I was a late checkin and was rebooked for the next day. I walked the agent through my travels. showing I had checked in 24 hours earlier and my bags were already on the Victoria flight. But. they were sold out there was nothing that could be done. So. I told her to call her manager and a deputy because I was working up an epic melt down that would be featured in the Houston Chronicle . The manger showed up with good news, someone decided not to go to Victoria and freed up a seat
