Surprised how many people went home after boot camp...we about 9 hours to spend with our families ..reported back that night and in the morning loaded up on bus to go to airport to fly to AIT. By week 3 of ait we had saturdays off and could leave base but it was anothe 13 weeks of training before we got our orders and grad. Ait. Then took our leave to go home and pack to move.

Every branch is different. You rate 10 days of leave after Marine Corps Recruit Training. You don't have to take it, but why not? It's all based upon school slots. Why would I go sit & wait at SOI and not class up & not be able to take leave? Generally in the Marine Corps you won't take leave for about a year after so another reason why they do it

Got on a bus for tech school. Man that seems long a long time ago. Best time i ever head in tech school!

Was so funny graduating in '81 and going off with my parents to start leave and watching my buddies get on the cattle car heading over to the ABN school.
