quote:Funny enough that was actually their flag from 1861-1865, they didn't have an official flag from the end of the Civil War until 1894 when the current one was made apparently

I’m with you. I just don’t see the need to be displaying the confederate flag at the state level period. The monuments I’m fine with because those guys played into local history and such. There’s no reason to be paying homage to the confederate flag though.

No one is saying that the Civil War didn't happen or that the Confederacy didn't exist.

I mean, I have no allegiances to this state other than I get a paycheck.
I just think it's funny that people are losing their minds over the possibility that it's changing.
Obviously, it has importance to them, and because it’s more that a place to get a paycheck and they are Permanent residents of the state, it stands to reason it’s important to them.

I know, that's my point.

They should just replace the confederate flag with the US flag.

Pretty sure Black people remind more people of that than anyone.

Actually kind of a nice little flag. Update the look fo the magnolia and I think it looks very cool. I really like the border and lone star in the corner.

My heritage exists regardless of what flag flies on a pole.

So yes, you can look at the flag and deduce that the majority of voters care more about waving their five year "confederate heritage" around rather than a flag that represents the state as it is today.
These are one in the same though. The state didn’t just poof into thin air. It has a heritage and history to it, just like everything else. That’s just as much part of the state as anything else currently.
I’m merely stating the MO for the other side, as I believe that wanton destruction of history, akin to book burning, will provoke opposition from a large number of people, regardless of what it represents.
I have no ties to MIssissippi or it’s flag, and don’t really care about it one way or another. That doesn’t mean I can’t despise the way the other side are going about things.

The only reason people want it changed in the first place is because they are following a cult-like dogma. They want it gone because they want it gone. It won’t solve racism.
It’s not like someone looks up at that flag everyday and thinks, “Ahh, yeah! I remember! I’m a racist!”
Do you think that’s what people who want it removed are imagining it will solve?

Mississippian born and raised. Don’t really care if it stays or goes but I know one thing...after it’s removed, something else will offend the SJW crowd and this entire process will be repeated.

Also, old people don't like changes in general, because that's what the damn kids are doing... changing things that were perfectly good enough for us, gosh darnit!

IMO, it should be changed. However, that should be decided by popular vote of the state's residents.

Simple fact is people are STUPID....The flag in question was not the flag of the Confederacy it was a battle flag

It’s impossible to tell because it’s clear that their message is not only disorganized, but also not rational. At first, I thought it was just blanket trying to remove monuments and emblems for some contrived form of getting rid of “systemic racism,” which I didn’t support then and I don’t support now.
However, it seems that the true goal is something more sinister, while leading on these useful idiots with these preconceived notions.
Though, I could definitely be wrong.

and not be steered by outside influences
That is not realistic. If major revenue generating opportunities were lost since large corporations/organizations wanted to distance themselves with a state due to the design of a flag, I would vote to have it changed.
It would not be that important to me and it would be steered by outside influences.
