It’s the #1 self portrait troll job since that time that guy drew that stick man all over the textures of the Lords Earth.

I thought the Mona Lisa was originally black?

It’s small when you see it in person

It was also the first portrait that wasn’t a stoic non-smiling head-on or sideways profile portrait.
Mona was relaxed with her hands crossed and smiling, captured on an angled glance. Unheard of, at the time.

And not painted in one sitting, in fact, in took years to finish. Another reason the consistency is so outstanding.

quote:Have you ever seen cave paintings? People weren't always interested in capturing the world as it looks. And it's not just shapes, it's color and texture and techniques and expressions and perspective and extreme attention to detail. We have the benefit of history to make all of these things seem obvious to us, but back when no one had ever done it before these things weren't obvious at all. Linear perspective (objects appear smaller the further away they are) in particular was not an obvious concept and I believe artists invented it long before before mathematicians developed the geometry to describe it (correct me if I'm wrong). That's how non-obvious it is.
how can shape be interpreted any different than what it actually is?
Do you know how many photos a modern photographer takes just to get one photo that has exactly the lighting, pose, expression, mood, etc. that he's looking for? To do the same with a painting is on a whole different level.

It's shocking the OT can't appreciate art. You'd figure a bunch of high school educated, financed to the gills, plant baws would love some Da Vinci or Monet or Van Gough.

It’s the only picture of a woman that we know for a fact no one has ever masturbated to.

Just took me 3 minutes to make this statement false.

TBH I don't appreciate a lot of art, either. But I do appreciate the skill required in some cases, and the thought behind some of it, especially if it helps to develop something like a field of mathematics. Mostly I just appreciate genius in whatever form it takes.

I was underwhelmed by it when I glimpsed it in the Louvre. I say "glimpsed" because there was a constantly moving line that the security guards kept ushering along. I couldn't even stand in front of it for more than a split second before they made me move away from it. I remember it being very small, much smaller than I was expecting.

It took him 4 years to complete and Da Vinci carried it with him the rest of his life.
I guess that led to the thought that there had to be something important about it.

If you have to ask, then you didn’t see My Cousin Vinny.
