Besides the fact that Da Vinci painted it. It’s just a portrait of some random lady. She’s not even good looking. She’s like an OT 2.3. Out of all the portraits in the world, what makes that one so special?

One of the most famous portraits ever...but it's smaller than you think seeing it in person, a bit underwhelming

It's actually the size of a postage stamp.

Nobody heard of it until it was stolen. The heist made it famous.

It’s larger than a postage stamp but I admit it was underwhelming the first time I saw it. The eye thing is legit though.

I'm not an artsy person but I think partly it has to do with it being painted from his imagination rather than a sitting model. I maybe full of shite though.

I don’t think that’s true, there was a model.

Here’s the colors as they originally looked supposedly

And a lot of what makes it special is the history of it, not the image itself. Napoleon had it hung in his room, it kept getting stolen, some guy stole it and slept with it for years, etc.

“Three in the pink, one in the stink” was what many claimed was the message. That theory has since been debunked by many.

The same thought occurred to me when I first saw the Alamo.
