I spent a fair amount of time there from about 93-99, worked at Iguanas for a while in 94.

Curious, what year? I would guess around the time the government was cracking down on cigs advertising, and cig machines. Crazy that cigs use to be sold out of a machine to any age.

1998. I believe it was right after the law passed that you were supposed to card anyone that looked under 40.

Being the unofficial fishing guide for dignitaries and visitors to a military base in the Caribbean. Wasn’t my “job” but my contract described my “job” and included something along the lines “ and other duties as needed”. Nearly 5 years. On average a day a week taking someone fishing. Snook, tarpon, bonefish and permit mostly but also the occasional king, wahoo, dolphin or sailfish. Occasionally also took them deep dropping but usually that was Sundays and they’d be gone by Saturday.
I had a side gig at the same time. I was the Super Cargo (actual job title in the 21st century) for a shipping company that made weekly deliveries to the base. $2000 a month, foreign earned income so tax free for all practical purposes, to send 1 email a month to Baltimore. In the 4 years I did it I had 4 issues I had to be involved with other than sending that email. My position also allowed me to be the POC for shipping small quantities of things for individuals on the island who needed them but had no idea how to get them shipped. Made a lot of money on 18 inch satellite dishes, outboard motors and other things that would have cost a fortune to ship legitimately. Also was able to get grocery items that were unavailable on base. Lots of money in smuggling but the good will is just as lucrative.

Getting on my row boat and throwing my cast net and catching shrimp.
Sold them to a live bait shop for 50 cents a quart. Shop charged 35 cents a dozen.
My three or four quarts made my day, about 60 or 70 in a quart.

Bartended for my cousin after I quit my construction job. I was around 24 and learned how to bartend from a girl I went to H.S. with. The poon I got from the waitresses and hostesses was unbelievable. And a lot of women clients to, especially the older ones, let say 30-40 years old single or divorced. Don't know how many times I had two women at the bar I had relations with at the same time. Got kinda of dicey but I persevered.

I've seen posters here wish to have the job of the guy who brushes the sand off the butts of swimwear models. I've done that, being behind the camera, and also enjoyed fashion print and runway shoots.

I had an acquaintance who ran a "ice cream" truck on the west side of Atlanta in the early 80s and several times I ran it for him when he was in jail or otherwise out of circulation. For the uncultured among us the "ice cream" truck in such neighborhoods are basically convenience stores on wheels. This one did not sale much ice cream but did sale single cigarettes (.25 each), bread cheese and lunch meat by the slice, single beers, half pints of cheap liquor and of course other things that would be unseemly on an actual ice cream truck. One would think this would be dangerous especially for a young white kid but believe it or not the service is so well regarded that even in really bad neighborhoods nothing ill happens beyond someone trying to get a baloney sandwich on account. I met some of the most interesting characters who ever walked the planet the 8-10 times I covered for him...it was a blast and it was also pretty good money for a 16 year old kid.
My grandfather and uncle were wannabe gangsters before the former got bad sick and the latter took bad drunk and both became disabled. They had all manner of schemes going including a floating casino, cock fights and even dog fights (the latter were shut down by a group which made it clear they did not appreciate the competition). Their "cover" was a pay day car lot. They had several drunks who "worked" for them doing odd jobs like driving cars to the auction, patching old cars up, that sort of thing. I spent an inordinate amount of my youth in the company of these men and the things I learned from them would make a drill sergeant blush. They paid me to drive cars to the auction (started when I was 12 and big enough to hit the brakes and see over the dashboard simultaneously) and help with old cars and roosters. The big money was running the concessions for them at their card and craps games and chicken fights. They started an auto auction once and I ran the concession at it also. When we went to other auctions across the south My grandmother would roast peanuts and an uncle a year older than me and I would bag them up and sale them on halfs with her. Adults at those auctions would pay us to run errands like get cigarettes, alcohol, drive hookers to motels, It was a fantastic education for a kid to be around car salesmen, prostitutes, degenerate gamblers and drunks....I could easily make $50-$75 a week after school and on weekends in the early to late 70's....but the true salary was the education I received from the adults I was around. I would not want my kids to be exposed to that world even as adults but it has been priceless for me...and it was a different era. The authorities would frown on someone allowing a child to be around that stuff today but in 1972 Atlanta it was seen as a young boy learning a trade....
